Hornady Cartridges

What experience has anyone had using Hornady catridges in 243 and 257 Roberts for deer hunting? Do they expend and hold together properly?

my experience for deer is w/ the 25-06 and 7 rem mag...however, fwiw, if you absolutely positively have to shoot factory rounds, there are none better than the hornady.

I've had good success with the .243 rounds from Hornady.

Don't see why they wouldn't work. I've ruined somewhere over 20 CenTex deer with the Sierra 85-grain HPBT from my .243, and it's sort of a "blow-up" bullet that I wouldn't use on big deer. I don't recall ever hearing of anybody's 100-grain bullet not working well.

I've found the Hornady .257 Rbts 100 g loads to yield acceptable accuracy. I would trust Hornady's expanding bullets, and use them second only to Sierra bullets in my rifle reloading. In some loads they actually outperform the Sierras, out of some rifles.

I was astonished at the accuracy of two completely disparate factory loadings of .257, though: the Federal Premium Nosler Partition 120g gave superb accuracy, and the cheapo Remington 100g SP (Round Nose, blunt bullet, flat base) gave surprisingly good accuracy at 100 yards (all touching a dime).

Haven't bought any loaded ammo by them but I handload the bullets in 243. Have only taken two deer with that setup and both dropped in their tracks. Well, Actually one did kinda flip over backwards. Hit both in the white spot under the chin. Beheaded the one (95% of the neck disappeared the size of a volley ball, only hanging by a few threads) which was an upward angle and the downward angle exited the belly button. Tried to locate the bullet in the dirt afterwards to see bullet performance. It was wayyy deep and I didn't bring a shovel, never did get it.
