I am finally getting around to setting up my LNL AP and I have a question. With the case activated powder measure Hornady included an extra rotor and metering assembly with no real explanation of when to use it. Other than on the parts list it says Small Pistol. Should I use that assembly with any pistol caliber or only smaller pistol calibers? I am loading .40S&W.

Thanks in advance.....

All pistol calibers. The larger one is for rifle calibers. There can, however, be some overlap. ie: .22 Hornet and .44 Mag

As a practical matter, I generally try to use the pistol (small) rotor whenever I can because the smaller cavity seems to dispense more uniform charges. There are exceptions - I've had bridging problems with Trail Boss in the small rotor, so use the large rotor for my CAS loads even though the light CAS charges would fit easily in the smaller one.

I just set up my new LNL press too and the keyway broke on the shaft that the shellplates slip over, the first day I used it. Don't force anything!!

Will can Hornady tomorrow.

Pistol rotor and metering assembly was cleaned and installed this afternoon. RCBS powder check die will get setup tomorrow. Thank You all for the help.

Same thing happened to me "parasite" . I just took a 8/32 drill bit and drilled straight down where it used to be and drove a steel rod where it used to be.I believe a finnishing nail is the right diameter. Wont break now!!

Hornady tech support advised me as follows:

"The standard Hornady L-N-L Powder Measure pistol rotor and metering insert meters from .5 grain to 17.0 grains of powder. The standard rotor meters from 5.0 grains to 100 grains of powder. "

I always can count on getting a straight answer here. Thanks again! Lockout die gets set up today!
