Either way, for me the decision is going to be a tough one. The final decision will have to wait a week now because I found out my Mom has cancer and will have surgery early next week. So I won't order anything until I get back from helping her.

Stop the Music, Cut it Cut it!!!
First and foremost, May the Man upstairs keep his arms around your Mother and give the rest of your family peace. I believe GOD hears our prayers, Mate, and your Mother will be in ours.

God Bless...

The Hornady powder measure is less accurate on pistol charges
This something I do not understand. When you look at the Hornady, it appears to be made much better, with better tolerances. Still, I have trouble keeping my Hornady measure even close to consistent at the Dillons. I have idea why. Only thing I can figure is that when the Dillon klunks and jumps, it settles the powder. Dunno

I was able to throw +/- .1 grain pistol charges with out the pistol rotor on the powder drop in my lnl ap. I have never used a dillon, but for my pistol plinking ammo =/- .1 grain is fine with me. I do have the pistol rotor now, but haven't used it nearly enough to give an honest review of it.

For the record I have dealt with Lee and Hornady customer service, and do not see how any other brand could surpass their service.. Unless they hand deliver parts think they all are on par as far as that goes.

As far as resale value goes... If you are not going to keep the set up for a long time do not go with either one. Get something cheaper... Like a Lee. I bought my Hornady knowing I would never sell it. Looked at it more like an investment.

As far as the case retention spring on the lnl. I am well over 5,000 rounds on the original spring. I would def keep a spare though.

To lgbloader, thank you for your kindness, caring and prayers for my Mom's cancer recovery. I will pass them on to her. Like you, my wife and I believe strongly in the power of prayer, and we have been putting them in regularly, believe me. It certainly does make all the fuss over which one to choose seem trivial.

If you're having problems with your LnL measure you haven't cleaned it properly. Any oil or grease in the works will result in large variations. Clean it like the manual says, and it's about the most accurate and reliable measure around.

I know why, the Dillon measure uses a sliding action, the Hornady uses a rotary action. The Dillon has a built in baffle the the bottom of the powder resevoir, its part of the resevoir, it keeps the presssure on the column of powder at the charge cavity constant whether the measure is full or nearly empty.

The Hornady measure has no baffle, I ended up making one out of plastic myself, it improved the accuracy of the measure considerably. I tried the pistol rotor, and sent it back, its worthless unless you use ball powder only. With Unique, and trailboss, I had squibb loads from the pistol rotor, the small size of the cavity made it completely erratic with flake powders.

Degreasing it was the first thing I did about 5000 rounds ago, I never saw anyone else pack a powder measure in oil like Hornady does, but their linkage and their rotor rust very easily so that is why.

What?

What?

Considering all the numerous platings and coatings one can choose these days, especially when you have the volumes Hornady must have and the very high quality level they subscribe to. I can't believe they supply plain steel parts!

Loading dies rust in a heartbeat. I deal with that, and my other plain steel toys and accessories.
