Running 9mm now. When I the PTX expander installed in the powder drop and set to where it "bells" the amount I want, I lock it down then proceed to make sure the arm that measures then drops the charge goes all the up to the top of its arc.

When this is all set, that should be it (I guess) but when I run just 1 shell through, the dispensing arm of the powder drop goes up about 1/4 of it's normal movement just from the bottom of the mechanism hitting the (empty) shell plate. It does not seem to drop any powder at this point, but I am wondering if this is normal.

In Gavin's video showing the LNL running some 45ACP, his does it too, but mine seems to up up a little higher.

Is there an adjustment for this? Does it matter? As long as no powder drops out is it OK?

Mine does it also .The mechanism needs .500 of travel to do a full arc .On the short pistol rounds the PTX sits at or just below the top of the shellplate when at the top of it stroke. If you adjust it so the measure stops just short of full rotation it doesn't hit as much but still dispenses accurately. They need a little shorte arm on the drum so it doesn't need as much travel.

What you describe is normal. The shorter cases like the 9MM require the Quick Change Powder die to be screwed in further so the case will completely cycle the powder measure when the shellplate is at the top of the stroke. Are you using the Powder Measure Stop?

No, I am not using the Powder Measure Stop...do you know where I can get one? I searched hornady.com for this phrase and did not come up with anything.

The powder measure stop makes it easy. Midway sells them cheap. Set the powder die up so it has full travel then install the stop and adjust until you get the belling you want. After adjusted the measure won't have quite a full rotation but enough to dispense powder correctly. I have one for each load so I don't have to adjust. The stop makes all the problems with the ptx go away. Without the stop it sounds like you need to drop the hole measure a little so you have room to adjust.

My LNL AP didn't come with the powder measure stop, but when I called Hornady to get the PTXs I ordered one, but they said it was free. The part number is 290049 and they refer to it as the "powder measure stop" (page 48 of the 2011 catalog) if you want to call them up and try to get one for free too.
