Has anyone else had trouble with the shell plates on the Hornady LNL press,with the case retainer spring sticking up too high and preventing the case from feeding onto the shell plate?I'm using the case feeder and each time it feeds a case to the shell plate,it trips over the spring,preventing it from going into the shell plate.So far it's only done this with the #22 plate.I've called and spoke with the Hornady rep and have sent the shell plate back for them to inspect.Just curious if anyone else has run into this problem.Thanks in advance.

The spring should run in the groove. There are a couple of shell plates where it will not drop in by its self. You have to give the spring a nudge with your finger to get it started in the groove as you work the handle. It will stay in after that.
The spring is brand new and the press has been cycled before feeding shells.I understand about pushing the spring into the groove and have done that.The spring is in the groove but is still up a hair high,just enough to tip the shell as it's being fed to the plate.I sent the shell plate back to Hornady about a week ago and have not heard anything from them other than the fact that they received it.Thanks for the input.

But, I wonder is the groove in your base plate is not quite right. The center of any case in any shell holder would be in the same place relative to the press. A larger diameter shell would have the spring a little farther out than a small one.
If the groove was not cut deep enough on the inside, or wide enough, it could ride up a bit higher when the #22 shell plate is installed.
Just a thought to check.
I am not convenient to my L-N-L so I am working from memory. I forget if the ring on the bottom of the shell plate that holds the spring is in the same or different location for every shell plate. I kind of remember an issue with the 223 Rem shell plates a few years ago along these lines.
But, I have slept since then.

Are you having any problems with shells hanging on ejection? If so the spring is not dropping down like it should. I took a grinder to the shell plate and tapered the square edge where it starts to fall off (position 5). I have the brass feeder on mine and have never had a problem with it hanging on the spring. The Shell plate yes till I got the pusher adj properly. May want to delay the feed just a tad and see if that helps.
