Hi I Recently Acquired a set of Hornady Titanium Nitride Dies in 44 Mag. Just was wondering if anyone has any experience with these dies. Should I use any case lube or can I treat them as I would Carbide Dies. I will be installing them on my 550 Dillon Press. I did Obtain a Conversion set for it. I also Have a RCBS Rock Chucker. It was my original intention to use the Rock Chuker for the 44 Cal. But I Do have an extra Tool Head so I figure Why Not use it. Just afraid I might Jam a Case with no Lube. I have not loaded anything so far that needed to have case Lube. All my die sets are Carbide.
Any help Appreciated Thanks Ted

I used them without any lube and they worked fine. I have since changed all of my Hornady dies to other manufacturers' carbide dies and resizing takes less effort, so my 1050 is running nice and smooth with less vibration. On a single stage, it probably won't make much difference which dies you use.

The TiN or Tinite dies are lube-free. Intended to replace WC (Tungsten Carbide) since it doesn't tend to gall when dirty like steel and is cheaper overall to make than tungsten carbide, which is sintered and ground then pressed into the steel die. TiN is a ceramic coating over machined or cast steel so it's cheaper to make, harder, doesn't gall or abrade, and is easily identifiable without having to look inside a tube to try and spot "the Ring." that trait has value in this hobby.:)

There's also a TiC - Titanium-Carbon - that goes by the name "carbide" but isn't the same as WC Tungsten-Carbon we all know and love as "carbide." :) :D

I actually wore out a Hornady TN sizing die in .45acp. It took about 30,000 rounds reloaded to do it. Noticed Remington cases were not getting resized enough to hold the bullet solidly and severe setback was the result.
I replaced it with a Dillon Carbide die.

Thanks to all The Nice Folks on this forum for your Great Input. Much Appreciated. Ted

Though it works just like a carbide, you can use lube for smoother operation if running a AP. I have found that the dies need to be cleaned regularly to keep them running smooth. If it seams harder than normal it needs cleaning in my experience.
Just wondered what you recommend. I have Balistol , Shooters Choice, and Strike Hold as well. I picked up my dies used so I am going to tear them all down and give them a good cleaning before I use them.
