There will be a John C. Garand Memorial Match Sunday, May 29th, at the Bayou Rifles Juliff range, on County Road 57 between FM521 and I -288. Map at http://www.bayourifles.org
The course of fire is:
20 rounds (preceded by 6 sighters) in 26 minutes, prone, single loading.
10 rounds prone, in 70 seconds.
10 rounds seated in 60 seconds.
10 rounds standing in 10 minutes, single loading.
Since it is more of a clinic than actual match, if you need more time in the rapid-fire strings, you will get it; all you have to do is raise your hand and tell the match director how many more rounds you have left to fire.
Match fee is $20 and includes all ammo, and a short instructional clinic on 1) the course of fire, 2) how to load the Garand without mashing your thumb, 3) how to use the sling for prone and seated, and so forth.
There will be a rifle to borrow - many club members have more than one, and bring them to loan.
You will get a Match Bulletin - i.e. scoresheet - with your name, as proof of participation in a competitive event, to qualify for your own Garand. Go to http://www.odcmp.com and click on "rifle sales" for information.
We shoot in two (sometimes three) relays; those not shooting go to the pits (behind the protective berm) and score targets.
All you need are ear plugs, eye protection, and a sweatshirt, or jacket with recoil pad if you have one. If you have a spotting scope and mat to lie on, bring those - otherwise you can borrow, just like the rifle.
This is a fun event, not too serious. The only serious part is, we are dedicated to safety; range rules will be explained but are very common-sense.
I hope to see you there. Please forward this as you see fit; anyone who is a responsible, safe shooter is welcome.
Regards,
Andrew
Note that the Texas State Garand Match will be at the same range on June 25-26. This is a more serious match - info at www.ePCGC.com/TSRAGarand.pdf
