There will be a John C. Garand Memorial Match Sunday, May 29th, at the Bayou Rifles Juliff range, on County Road 57 between FM521 and I -288. Map at http://www.bayourifles.org

The course of fire is:
20 rounds (preceded by 6 sighters) in 26 minutes, prone, single loading.
10 rounds prone, in 70 seconds.
10 rounds seated in 60 seconds.
10 rounds standing in 10 minutes, single loading.

Since it is more of a clinic than actual match, if you need more time in the rapid-fire strings, you will get it; all you have to do is raise your hand and tell the match director how many more rounds you have left to fire.

Match fee is $20 and includes all ammo, and a short instructional clinic on 1) the course of fire, 2) how to load the Garand without mashing your thumb, 3) how to use the sling for prone and seated, and so forth.

There will be a rifle to borrow - many club members have more than one, and bring them to loan.

You will get a Match Bulletin - i.e. scoresheet - with your name, as proof of participation in a competitive event, to qualify for your own Garand. Go to http://www.odcmp.com and click on "rifle sales" for information.

We shoot in two (sometimes three) relays; those not shooting go to the pits (behind the protective berm) and score targets.

All you need are ear plugs, eye protection, and a sweatshirt, or jacket with recoil pad if you have one. If you have a spotting scope and mat to lie on, bring those - otherwise you can borrow, just like the rifle.

This is a fun event, not too serious. The only serious part is, we are dedicated to safety; range rules will be explained but are very common-sense.

I hope to see you there. Please forward this as you see fit; anyone who is a responsible, safe shooter is welcome.

Regards,
Andrew

Note that the Texas State Garand Match will be at the same range on June 25-26. This is a more serious match - info at www.ePCGC.com/TSRAGarand.pdf

1) Presume all firing is done from the 200 yard line?

2) Squadding is at the usual 0700-0730 Hours?

3) If Garands are glass-bedded or otherwise match grade, welcome to shoot anyway?

4) Can we shoot our own ammo? (Match handloads or US Mil Ball, not AP, Tracer, etc.)

5) Should be finished by 1400 hours?

Yes, 200 yard line.

Sign in 8-8:30 - Sunday matches (e.g. 60-shot prone) are all "late" - Saturday (across the course) is 7-7:30

Welcome to shoot but I am not sure about eligible to "win prizes" - will check w/ Match director.

Any M2 Ball is fine. Not sure about handloads, will check.

Yes, unless we have an unusually high turnout and wind up with four relays.

Sorry about the "double" answer - not used to PM, should have checked forum first.

I look forward to seeing you at the match!

Regards,
Andrew

I posted the wrong start time

Sign-in may actually be 7-7:30 instead of the 8-8:30 I originally posted. Sorry!

Either my understanding is flawed or they "changed the rules" - used to be, all Sunday matches were 8:30, all Saturday 7:30 sign in.

This morning I received an e-mail saying 7-7:30. I have a call in to the Match Director and will post the actual time he tells me, when he tells me.

I apologise for the confusion.

Regards,
Andrew

I am a member and have shot in the Garand Match at BRI. There are two clasifications, "As Issued" and "Modified". They even checked everyone's trigger pull weight last time. M2 for "As Issued", anything goes for "Modified".

7-7:30 Sign-in

Ok, they changed it and didn't make it clear until today.

Sign-in is 7-7:30 instead of 8-8:30, but anyone who shows up expecting the later time will get to shoot - there will be a "late" relay if there is no room on relay 2. Everyone who shows up to shoot gets to shoot.

Sorry for the confusion. Used to be, all Saturday matches (across-the-course) were 7-7:30, all Sunday (60-shot prone and Garand) were 8-8:30.

Now, with the new 1,000-yard range, the 1,000 yard matches are Sundays, and it gets so hot by mid-day that they changed the Sunday 1,000 yard match to 7-7:30 to get done earlier. This carried over to the Garand match.

Again, sorry for the confusion. Come on out if you can make it.

Regards,
Andrew
