Who, if anyone, makes a 1911 style pistol in .22 rimfire that has a double stack high capacity magazine? I thought that would be a nice alternative to the Buckmarks and Mark III's that are so prevalent. I'm looking for a plinker/snake gun with a little flair. Thought about the Beretta Neo or Walther P22. Any other suggestions?

I don't know about the double stack, but several 1911 makers have conversion kits for .22lr rimfire.

I love my Kimber 1911 .22 Target, but it's not double stack and it was pricey. The Walther P-22 isn't double stack either. My wife has one. It's a real fun little plinker, fairly accurate, and easy to toss in a backpack. Her P-22 is a bit ammo sensitive, but load it with High Velocity Federals, and it goes bang every time.

Double stack .22's really want a curved magazine that's fairly hard to fit into the usual pistol configuration . The Ciener kits hold 15 rounds and AFAIK that's as good as it gets - which ain't bad . As much as I'd love to have a 50 round Glock 22 .22 or the like , those danged rims are hard to make that equation work .

OK- new parameter- just checked the Kimbers. Anything out there about $300?? How about a good used option? What if we delete the 1911 format, but still want to avoid the Buckmark or Rugers?

Unfortunately, good .22's are just as expensive to make as good centerfires.

Ocassionally you see some of the older Beretta .22's, they're pretty nice guns. The Walther's are very nice, but well beyond your 300 range.

How bout an S&W Kit Gun? revolver, I know, but you can probably get a used one for what your looking to spend.

Ruger kinda owns the inexpensive .22 market....

Get a Marvel .22 1911 conversion kit.

Its well worth it, well made and the most accurate .22 kits for the 1911. Its better than the Ceiner or the Kimber kits.

Its expensive, but it is VERY well worth it. Do a search for Marvel, you'll see what I mean. I have one and I love the kit!

Oh, I forgot about the new models, I was talking about PPK's or PP's. Don't know about the new ones..

OOH- and then I just found out about the Sig Mosquito- that has possibilities as well!
