Anyone here into these earlier percussion or Rock-Lock guns ?
I would love to see them .
I/E : Kentucky's , Hawkens , Plains , Mangs , Kutchentrouters , Molls , Charles Moores , Mortimers , Saloon pistols , etc , etc ....

I am just getting into the Sport and would like to know if anyone else here is involved in this shooting sport too ?
I just got a Pedersoli Kentucky Pistol in .54 and a .45 Pedersoli Bounty coming Monday .
I am sure to have questions on both .

Sincerely , Das Jaeger :)

Try talking nicely to Articap Jaeger - he has some pics of real beaut Pedersolis

Note: do not talk too nicely - I already have an undertaking to buy his Mang and maybe a couple of the others LOL

Nice stock work

DrLaw , yours I assume ?
Nice spin on that gun , kinda like a mini-Dueling pistol , real mini . :D
Nice work though , very nice indeed .

MyKeal , you like CVA's , got it :D .... I like that lock on that Mountain Pistol , Little touch of Mountain Pistol class there with the engraving in that style . Reminds me allot of what you'd find on trade Rifles .

Aussie, don't worry , I almost always buy new anyway . I have only two guns in my entire collection that were not bought new . And I traded for one of them no less . I am startin out in this sport slow and cheap , but good quality guns , a Mang is some time down the road for me . No worrys Mate about me undercuttin ya , I would never do such a thing . I want a Mortimer first anyway , hee hee hee ....:D

Thanks for posting the pics, very cool , more more more, feed me feed me . :)

Das Jeager :)

I've got a couple of 'em...

I've got the .50 Cal Wm. Parker 1810 London in the white...

And the T/C Patriot .45 that I was shooting a couple of weeks ago.

The first two Pedersolis are match pistols while the 3rd Pedersoli is a target pistol.

Built some sort of "Tower Lock" percussion pistol in .45 decades ago. Was interesting, but too much to carry around for one shot, LOL!

Could've used some sights to, considering it was rifled.

Thanks

for sharing more pics guys , eatin this up , thanks for the food . :)

Nice pistols Articap , you certainly have my taste , or I yours :) . I am pretty well read on all three of what you have there except the Kahnke . Now tell me , which is the most accurate out of the three Pedersolis ? Probably not the Saloon , but you never know ? Being an in-line , it could proably do a very fine Ten Meters anyway am thinkin .

Hey Ratdog68 , another Traditions ? How does that thing shoot ? Beautiful gun , I like it , real pretty . Those are priced really good too .

Sincerely, Das Jaeger

PS.......Will have to get some pics of mine out soon before I tear into um for upgrades and mods . I got the Kentucky sittin right here in front of me , and she'sa beauty for $350 . The 16" barrelled Bounty .45 Monday , yeeehaaa . That one outa reach ouch and touch ya :D Esepcailly with a .451 and thin patch , um huh :D

Those CVA's are the first guns I built, back in the mid-70's (that's 1970's), along with their rifles. Here's a Bondini Hawken, purchased from the old Four Flags Trading Post in Wichita:

Yes, mine. I got it through THE POSSIBLE SHOP about a year or so ago. MEC, also on this forum, Had a thread of a much nicer version than mine. I wanted to get a little of the flavor of a Philly Derringer. This kit has a lot of wood that can be safely removed, I just didn't have the total patience to do it. MEC's version is checkered, too. Let's see if I can find the link...

Okay, there you go.

The Doc is out now.

Bondini

Hawken , the second one I have seen in my life is all . Your work looks solid , even for being in the 1870's , I mean 1970's . :) Did you do the checkering ?
Thanks for sharing those pics , those guns are gettin kinda rare . I am thinkin those must be CVA's before they became paper weight quality guns ? They sure took a turd at some point in manufacturing , or ownership of the company around that time period . I was just a pup back then , but they were ok quality from what I remember , even saw the kits sold in JC Penneys and Monkey Wards , but then they got real cheapy later .

DrLaw , yes, his littel guy is done well , sights are nice lookin on it . Definately traditional-ish . I am sure too to hear flack on that , but there were no shortage of gunsmiths back then that upgraded those little guns , and sights were defiantely in the realm of there talents .Some of those guns I have seen have been tricked out to the maximum . Those guns were the Bees Knees back then for Yankee City Slickers . :D
I like yours better , lighter wood , I hate dark stained woods , I like to see the wood in the raw , always , but his sights takes the nod . :)

Thanks guys , Das Jaeger

Yer Jaegerness... Don't know yet whether the Wm. Parker is a shooter or not. It's still NIB condition. LOL The funny part is... I just plain liked the looks of it when I ordered it, but hadn't looked at it THAT closely. When it arrived I LOOKED at it and realized it has no ram rod, nor a provision to carry one.

I'm with you... I likes natural wood with finish on it. IMNSHO... "stain" should be just dark enough to enhance the natural look of the grain, and light enough to keep the visual appeal of the bare wood.

yup

I agree , and I never use it unless I have to , stain that tis your Ratdog68-ness . :D
I really like that Parker , allot , nice lines , Dueler/target stuff, my favorite look . Thats a bargain for the price too . Now if you got the brass nickeled , it would really look sharp . I hate brass , its my enemy , but comes on so many guns I like the lines of . Old school buffed out nickel looks so nice on guns of this era , but obviously not traditional .
I drive a car , not very tradtional either is it , hee hee hee , where's my horse ! Were all hypocrits that way , well most are . Some of us may actualy take our horse to Church and not the car or even owne a car ?
I have an Iron Horse , does that count :D

I've got the iron horse... haven't ridden it yet this year... but, have 147,000 miles on it in 8yrs' time. I DO have a hay-burner too... but, he lives 175 miles away.

I kinda like the looks of polished brass... but nickel has a nice warm look to it too that I like. Cleans up easily too.

Iron horse?THAT takes me back.I never learned to drive a ''cage'' until I was nearly 30.I've had numerous Triumphs and BSA's and even one Harley. My dad was a Harley man, while my brother was the ''odd'' one ,with his Norton 850 Commando.Gee,it's been twenty years ago now.

Cool 1761 , and Iron Hroses

Trying to keep the thread real here :D And yes , I did the re-furbish on this used rifle . It was Val Folgerts personal Tyron , he's dead now, this gun is VERY valuable to me . For people who are not in the Know , Val was a major contributor to the BP sports and owner of Navy Arms .

Me in my Norton Commando powered Wheel chair . Once a Biker always a Biker :D

I haven't received the Pedersolis yet but there's deal pending for 2 of them.
Due to all of the loading & shooting variables, I'm not sure that there is such a thing as absolute attainable accuracy from a muzzle loader. One gun might be more desireable/favorable to an individual over another model. But the .38 Mang does seem to offer a lot of potential.
I'd bet that "[email protected]" (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=461093) can shoot virtually any pistol well since he's a national champion. Even his wife is an accomplish match shooter and some folks simply have the talent to shoot any gun well. Folks like them might even be able to "coax" the Saloon into shooting better than it should. ;)
