7.62x54 round shot from my M44. I had lined up like 20 of these zip disks and shot them from about 30 yards away. Round got stuck in the last one.

How about some 185gr gold dots fired from a 4" XD service.

noname.jpg

These were shot into wet newspaper from around 15ft away.

Here is the flame from the shot.

WWB flame for comparison

Yes, one was a little closer, but not that much, its just that big of a difference. Power Pistol is your friend.

38 SPL 158 gr RN-TMC

38 SPL 158 gr RN-TMC

Shot from S&W Airweight 2" barrel ... through an empty aluminum can and then hitting a smooth rock.

About 20 feet out. Normal pressure reloads.

I have lived here for 37 years. about 35 years ago I cut down an ugly, stunted little tree...maybe 8" in diameter. I split a piece for fire wood and found a 9mm bullet embedded about three inches deep. I still have it,wood with projectile in place, in my gun room. Sorry, I'm not 'puter savvy, so no pics.:(

Having trouble adjusting the focus...sorry.

But these 7.62x51 NATO and 5.56x45 NATO slugs were recovered in the old Ft. Ord in Central California.

As you can see, they have been inside some berm for a long time. However, other projectiles found were in remarkable condition. If you get lucky, you might even find some M2 Ball .30-06. With that clean looking 5.56, you can see trace amounts of a green pigment at the tip if you look closely--(but not in this crappy picture).

All recovered from a wooden tree stump. Doesn't provide much valuable info but some of the bullets surprised me how intact they were.

From left to right.... 335gn 50 cal Rainier, 240gn 44 cal Missouri TCFP, 300gn 44 cal Hornady XTP, next two are 240gn 44 cal SJSP Magtech, 200gn 44 cal Penn RNFP , 180gn 10mm Remington, 158gn 357 cal Missouri SWC, 125gn 357 cal Winchester SJHP, and the last two are factory 9mm.

Starting from the top left and working right:

53gr Barnes TSX fired from a 22-250 into and oak log, A 9mm bullet that I recovered from a burnt log from a wildfire in Colorado(my personal favorite). A wolf 122gr FMJ fired into mud, Remington bulk pack 45acp JHP fired into water(the core and jacket separated), Winchester White box JHP fired into water(much better performance than the Remington), and lastly a 230gr 45acp round fired at a rock.

Next row, left to right: 350gr Magnus bullet heavily loaded in a 45-70 fired through a snappin turtle and into a log, A light loaded 350gr Magnus bullet fired into dirt, 405gr Remington factory ammo JFP fired into a bale of peat moss, and lastly, a Remington Factory ammo 300gr JHP fired into a pine log.

I really like the 9mm with some of the lead melted out of it. It made my day when I found it :)

9mm and Shot recovered from Army Balistic Groin Panel

Been kinda meaning to post this anyways... so here goes...

Had a discarded Interceptor, Ballistic Panel, Groin Protector (standard current military issue ballistic panel with no trauma plate)... decided to shoot it with a combination of 9mm JHP +P+, 9mm Ball, .38 spcl. JHP, .357 mag JHP, and 12 ga ~7 shot(?)... hey, it's all I had on me at the time... It was placed over a loose pile of dirt and shot at ~5' distance....

This is the some of the shot and one 9mm slug that we recovered (we recovered them all but I can't find the others right now)... notice that some of the shot is deformed, and some is not... all of the hollow points just folded in on themselves (as seen in this photo), and failed deform much more than standard ball ammo.

Here is a photo of the label on the panel... for reference as to what exactly it is...

attachment.php

This is the panel assembly taken apart after shooting to demonstrate construction... the fabric goes in the sleeve... the sleeve goes in the nylon case... the nylon case is placed over the groin area... (hopefully yours isn't full of lead like this one)

attachment.php

This is the front of the panel... to demonstrate hit areas.... the large circle is the shotgun blast... it was taken last.. the others are 9mm, 38 spcl, and .357 mag holes

attachment.php

This is the rear of the complete panel assembly... clear exit holes right?? (circled for clarity).... we called "lame" on the Army for this one after the first 9mm appeared to have gone clean through.... we were in haste... yes, there is a considerable amount of energy on the far side of the ballistic panel, enough in fact to rip the fabric, and no doubt leave massive welts, and maybe even organ damage... but as noted earlier, upon further investigation we recovered every shot from inside the panel... very few went more than 6-8 layers of fabric deep... none even came close to getting half way through (clearly focusing the energy in a rather tight area)

attachment.php

This is a closer look fabric in the area hit with the 12 ga 7 shot... a mass of pellets are fused together there in the middle (much more than the photo shows), while some of the errant pellets penetrated much further and stopped with very little distortion... (much further was still no were near halfway through)

I shot an old Nokia brick style cellphone about 8 years ago, it stopped a .22lr round. If I can find that old phone I'll post some pics of the .22 lodged in there (and the .40s&w hole going right through it).

Thought I'd revive this thread with some new pics from last week.

These are our department's duty rounds recovered from wet magazines and newspaper.

Winchester Ranger T-Series, 180 gr

163 gr retained

My accidental/negligent discharge.

Retrieved my Taurus M85 from the glovebox while driving to put back into my pocket. Caught the hammer, proceeded to thumb it down, and did not remove my finger from the trigger early enough.

158-grain Hornady XTP, from a 2.5" .38.

Took the button off the shifter (found busted off but surprisingly unmarked under the seat), went through the lower dash below the radio, a layer of body metal and a subframe brace, and rattled around for a week before falling out the rear floor-level AC vent.

Missed my right leg by inches.

I have since bobbed the hammer of the .38, switched to more traditional SJHP +P, and bought new pants.

Dug this thirty out of a white-tail years ago, sorry they are a little fuzzy.

Reminds me to find that recovered slug from a .50 BMG I found in Iraq. I'll post it if I find it.

I've got some Kevlar pads from an old flak vest. Might shoot up those tonight too.

Thanks to all for providing those photos. It's nice that so many people not only can find the bullets, but also that you have camera/computer skills.
Having never owned a handgun, my plans are to one day own either a compact 9mm or 380, and probably for CCW. My only interest for now consists of milsurp rifles.

It might be informative to compare the same type of (i.e.) jhp bullets used in both types of hand gun rounds, and the resultant damage to soft objects. How about with grapefruits or watermelon halves etc?

Winchester Ranger SXT 45 ACP 230 grain standard pressure. Recovered from soft clay bank. 1.06" across the widest points, 225 grains retained weight.

.50 BGMG recovered in Iraq outside Balad AB/ LSA Anaconda
Notice there are no rifling marks.

Just did this a little while ago, recovered from Kevlar shoulder panels from an old flak vest.
Remington UMC 115 gr. hollow point
DSCN2001.jpg

Different round, same trap
DSCN2002.jpg

Was testing Tula 115 gr FMJ and WWB 115 Gr FMJ at the same time. FMJ penetrated clean through the Kevlar, plywood, and into the dirt berm backstop. WWB seemed hotter than the Tula based on the damage upon exit. The second Remington UMC was struck by a passing FMJ

Based on these results, I'm very disappointed in the Remington JHP. I'll have to try again with a different capture media. These got no expansion, just a little mushrooming. Could it be from the Kevlar?

Did you have anything in front of the kevlar?

Hard or resistant materials don't promote expansion. They just smash the nose of the bullet.

All I have to offer is a couple of .30-06 armor piercing penetrators that didn't make it all the way through this 3/4" steel plate. Those puppies are stuck TIGHT!
