Hey all,

I've been kinda curious about the SIG P938 in 9mm lately. I've never seen or handled one yet and am wondering how well it shoots and carries. It seems to be pretty popular. SIG has about 8 different varieties of it too.

So, I'd like to hear from you guys/gals that own one or have experience with them. What's your thoughts on them? How do you like it as a carry piece? How well does it shoot? Has it replaced your usual carry piece or is it going to remain in the drawer or safe?

Lastly, I'd like to see some pics. How about posting some pics of the 938 and with your carry rigs and gear?

Thanks all for the help.

Here's my P938 Blackwood Edition. It's my most carried pistol. I also have a P238 which I carry if the P938 doesn't fit my pants pocket. Pocket carry in a DeSantis pocket holster in my common carry style.

I carry an SAS model every day. I am able to conceal it IWB or in pocket very easily, and shoot it well, the night sights are great. My only problem is that I don't have a full size 1911 to match.

I don't own one, but my parents do. I would not recommend it based on the failures (plural) I've seen my Dad's gun have. It's had parts fall out of the slide during recoil, and I've seen the extractor fail to engage on extraction (that might have been the ammo, though). Either way, the problems his P938 has had are the type that tap-rack-bang wouldn't fix, that would be of huge detriment during a life-or-death situation.

I have one and carry it a lot. When I first got it, I took it to the range WITHOUT cleaning it, oiling it or dismanteling it. Shot 50 rounds out of it using 6 different types of rounds, including JHP's. I had about 3-4 miscues of various kinds.

Brought it home, dismantled it, cleaned it and lubed it. Since then, I've shot several hundred rounds through it and it has NEVER AGAIN had a mis-cue of any kind. Quite accurate for what it is, EASY to carry and, IMHO, makes a very viable option for CCW.

My 938 is easy to carry, easy to shoot and functions flawlessly. What more can I say? Well there is more, the G 10 grips and extended mag go a long way toward "easy to shoot".

I have been drooling over a P938 SAS at the local gun store for a couple of weeks. I have a P238 and like it a lot. The only concern I have is the P938 must have a fair amount of recoil. Well, that and all of the horror stories I hear about breakage and reliability. For those who have one, have you shot them on multiple targets/multiple shots against a timer? Just how hard is it to grip it, rip it, and rock and roll?

I'm planning on buying an SAS after work today for $600 new. Aren't all the breakage and reliability problems from several years ago or are people still seeing this with new ones?

Picked this one up new @ the LGS just after Christmas, I decided on the Extreme, it came w a holster and a second 7 round mag along with the flush mount 6 round for carry. I have already put 200 to 300 rounds through it. I have not had any problems or even one jam, and I was impressed with how well it shoots. It is fun to shoot, unlike some of the other smaller carry autos. A+++ for me, Greg

I have had one for about a month. It has all my requirements for a good carry weapon as far as weight and size. I have put about 200 rounds through it at the range so far, and I like the accuracy. Because of the size, it has a strong kick, but then it is not my BHP. All in all I am very pleased with it.

Ours had to go back to SIG 2X for multiple FTE. They finally replaced the extractor the second time back. Only about 100 rounds since, no FTE but a couple FTF. Still don't fully trust it. Fun to shoot when it works.

We have one, I really like it. It's the extreme version. It is really easy to conceal and shoots accurately for a pocket pistol. The only issue I had with it was a problem my reloads which I fixed. I added a Hogue grip, the thicker rubberized kind, and it made absorbing the recoil MUCH easier but it's still a little snappy.

I have both the 238 and 938, and the 938 fails regularly. It won't shoot reloads, fails to eject sometimes, and is all around just not accurate.

I won't ever carry it, just not reliable enough.

P938

I have a P938 Extreme model, bought it last spring. I have about 300-500 rounds through it, never had a single issue. Somebody at the LGS told me when I bought it to handle it correctly and get a good grip on it. They said most subcompact failures were due to wimpy handling, who knows.
Anyway yes I would highly recommend it to anybody & I do trust my life to mine. It felt the best to me when I was looking for my first center fire subcompact, the most like a "real gun". I really appreciate the 1911-type design.
Only caveat is, like any subcompact, don't expect it to be as fun to shoot as a full sizer.

Mine has been perfect. Over 1K rounds through it, mostly my reloads. Has never failed one time. I carry it all the time. The early models seemed to have had more than their share of teething problems, but those seem to be well and truly over.

It's pretty traditional in 1911 design, so reloads, WWB, and hollow points are - across the board - always problematic.

The early issue guns with P238 extractors had some issues, but a lot didn't.

It's a small 9mm with alloy frame, recoil will be perceived as snappy compared to a gun with another 10 oz or more. It's a small frame concealable, not a large frame target or duty gun. While some shoot them a lot, they weren't designed to emulate a range gun that gets 1,000 of rounds thru it annually.

In terms of reliability, they seem to track the $1,500 .45 short frame guns if an open mind about internet posts is part of the factor.

I like mine, it's got a much better trigger than the 1st gen LCP I had, more power in the 9mm, more ammo capacity, and it has a safety. It came with a belt holster and two mags, it carries well, and it looks great.

I just need to have winter get over, the cars hold together long enough, and a sunny day to go shoot it. I expect the 500 round nose cartridges i have will function just fine, I won't get upset if some of the Hornady Critical Defense hang up in the early magazines. While many fault any gun that can't shoot perfectly with any ammo from the first round on, having owned a few other the last 40 years, I can say that's normal, acceptable or not. There is no perfect gun and no gun you should trust 100%.

If you do, your concept is wrong and that can endanger you. It's why experienced shooters practice malfunction drills instead of swapping one gun after another in search of a holy grail.

Hasn't been found yet. If it ever existed.

The hard part is choosing which model to get. They are awesome guns. Mine carries great.

Its not all 1911 though, it does have a ramped barrel - and mine feeds 124gr +P Golden Sabers perfectly, in fact its my carry round. And its a large diameter hollowed cavity!
Tirod - has yours had feeding issues with hollow points, or have you heard that or what? I did polish my ramp before I ever used mine, but I doubt I really "fixed" any problem.

Got my newly bought SAS to the range on Thursday and had no issues.
For a small gun, fun to shoot. Can't say that about a lot of small guns. It and my new C3 had their 1st shots
