Self-explanatory. Do you have boxes of loosies or cartridge holders with a slot for each round? Where in your house do you keep them? In a safe? Etc.

Either in plastic boxes like the reloaders use, with a little slot for each round, or in the original box. These go in ammo cans sorted by caliber. Need to take a trip to the range? Grab the nearest can with the right caliber marked on it and you're good for a day's worth of shootin' and then some (my .22LR can probably has about 7500 rounds in it). With shotgun target loads (bird shot) I usually have one can that's just got loose shells dumped in it of whatever was cheap that I opened a case of first. Sometimes mixed, sometimes not. Makes it easier to just leave it there at the skeet line and not have to fumble with boxes, or add to the already overflowing mass of them crammed into the range's trash can. Rattling around in the metal can doesn't seem to hurt 'em any, epsecially when it's packed full and they can't really rattle.

Some I have in boxes (the self-defense ammo), some in surplus mortar round containers or .50 cal cans, I even have a couple of cases from that RSA .223 ammo full of 8mm.:)

I have loaded magazines for the fighting guns in the safe, e.g. ARs and M14s. I can grab and go. As well, I keep loaded mags in a chest pouch for AR mags. (May I never use them).

I have shelves built along my walls of my armory. Handy things to have.:)

Storing ammo

I keep my commercial ammunition in the original box. I put those boxes in surplus ammo storage cans.

My surplus ammo is in crates in ammo boxes or in battlepacks. I put the loose battlepacks in surplus ammo storage cans.

My ready ammo is in magazines or belted. The belted ammo or magazines are put in surplus ammo storage cans.

I spray paint color code the cans and stack them in the gun room closet. The closet door is solid core with a deadbolt lock.

The walls of my gun room and its closet are lined with ¾ inch plywood and ¼ inch “rebar matting’. The plywood is screwed to the studs with 3 inch dry wall screws on about 9 inch centers vertically. The “rebar matting” is ¼ steel wire stock welded in a 4 inch square grid used in concrete as reinforcement. The matting is stapled to the studs with the seams spot welded. I had the number of studs for the room doubled and place one 9 inch centers. I had the plywood “mudded, taped and floated” and painted to match the room.

Most of my ammo is kept in the original boxes inside of .50 caliber ammo cans, segregated by caliber. I also have a few Cabela's and MTM plastic ammo cans. All cans are labeled.

The SA 7.62 NATO surplus that I have is still in the original battlepacks, stacked inside a Rubbermaid tub in my crawlspace.

I do keep some ready ammo loaded in magazines, in LBE.

Time for P-man to post a pic of his ammo locker. :)

I took the shelf out of the closet in my office and put a Gorilla Rack in, and store my ammo there. Bought ammo stays in orginal boxes/crates and all reloaded stuff is in plastic ammo boxes. Reloading supplies like powder and primers are in there also, bullets out in the garage.

Edit: I do keep reloaded .223 in ammo cans! :)

I store most of mine in my pants pockets, sock drawer, toolbox, file cabinet, coat, nightstand, desk drawers, random plastic containers, kitchen counter, windowsill, shoes, and of course the closet floor. Other popular storage locations include under my truck seat, in the center console, rolling around in the footwells, ashtray, coin tray, map pockets on the door panels, and in the glove box. I've even found some in ammo cans.

What?

Each gun has some in mags on shelfs in the safe:.223 in mags for the AR, 30-06 in Garand Clips, a few Beretta Mags full for the 92FS, two speedloaders of .357 for the SP101. and the rest are stored in Ammo Boxes on stripper clips or in plastice reloading boxes. all toll around 1500 pistol rounds, 1500 centerfire rifle and 2500 .22LR in bulk packs. Not too much but enough to not have to go to the store everytime you want to shoot.

I keep loaded ammo in their original box. These are stored in sealed metal army ammo cans. I usually put a pruchase date on the boxes. I keep them in the boxes in part to keep track of their age and anything that might get reloaded, number or reloads etc. Empties get placed back in the same box. Eventually the boxes of brass go, but usually in reaction to some life chaning event like moving. Then the brass is placed in individual zip lock bags that are labeled pending some future use.

I use the Homak cabinets that I used to keep my guns in (bought a fire safe for them). The long gun cabinet hold 'several' Milsurp amo cans filled with ammo, both loose and in factory boxes, while the handgun cabinet works well for storing my most frequently used ammo. The safe contains loaded mags, speedloaders, etc. I also keep a large ziploc bag in the safe for odds and ends left over from outings- kinda like a change jar that gets sorted now and then.
