For those who aren't familiar with the Gun Owners of America rating system, it is a grading system for politicians that was developed because many felt the NRA rating system was too lenient. GOA grades very tough and you don't get an A or an F unless you earn it. So you would think that a D or an F would get you a high rating from the Brady Campaign, wouldn't you?

Here is how the Brady Campaign rates Senators who earned a "D" from GOA:

Stevens: 4%
Collins: 21%
Cochran: 9%
Domenici: 19%
Voinovich: 55%
Smith: 14%
Frist: 13%
Bennet: 10%
Jeffords: 47%

So earning a "D" from GOA isn't radical enough for the Brady Campaign. Even the worst D rating in the bunch still only agrees with them 50% of the time.

How about F-? An F- rating is reserved for some of the worst hardcore gun grabbers in the Senate. Let's take a look at a few of those who have earned an F- from GOA from the Brady perspective:

Leahy: 47%
Chaffee: 50%
Graham: 85%

Pretty scary eh? Ranked an F- from GOA still means you are way too soft on guns by Brady Campaign standards.

Chaffee, who in 1992 said: "I shortly will introduce legislation banning the sale, manufacture or possession of handguns (with exceptions for law enforcement and licensed target clubs). . . . It is time to act. We cannot go on like this. Ban them!" is so soft that he only rates a 50%.

So where does John Kerry stand?

John Kerry: 100%

Not once since 1991 has Kerry ever deviated from the Brady Campaign party line. Out of 21 votes, he has voted in agreement with them 21 times.

Think Kerry believes in any kind of gun ownership?

Here are some quotes from some of Kerry's fellow 100% Brady Rated pals:

"Another rifle caliber, the 30.30 caliber, was responsible for penetrating three officers' armor and killing them in 1993, 1996, and 2002. This ammunition is also capable of puncturing light-armored vehicles, ballistic or armored glass, armored limousines, even a 600-pound safe with 600 pounds of safe armor plating.

It is outrageous and unconscionable that such ammunition continues to be sold in the United States of America." - Sen. Edward Kennedy - 100%

"If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them, Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in, I would have done it."" Sen. Dianne Feinstein - 100%

I think it depends upon who Kerry is addressing at the time. Heard he is coming out with a new line of footwear-they're called flip-flops.:fire:

My cube mate actually thinks that Kerry takes stands on issues, and doesn't understand how anybody can think that he (Kerry) can find a way to be on both sides of every issue at the same time.

He also thinks Bush is even worse about flip-flopping than Kerry.

Personally, there no way I'll vote for Kerry, and I think the only way I'll vote for Bush is if he dumps Cheney for Rice as VP. Course, that's only becuase I really want to see the fireworks of a Rice vs H. Clinton presidential race in '08.

I'd vote for Kerry before Nader, and since Kerry is a non-starter, that pretty much leaves Badnarik from the Libertarian party. I'm real thrilled with that choice either though. Maybe I'll just write in Larry Craig or Ron Paul. I don't know what I'll do in Nov, but I will vote.

You know, I think folks are kinda preaching to the choir here when they make posts like this. I have this sneaking suspicion that most of us already have a pretty good idea of exactly what Kerry's about. ;-P

Of course, I suppose one could use it to convince people who think Kerry is pro-gun that he's actually not, but people who think Kerry is pro-gun already seem to be suffering from some kind of mental defect.

Damn, that would be something.

Your exactly right. But how are you going to convince the "duck hunter/cowboy shooter/benchrester" that he ultimately wants their guns too? When they are convinced that he is an ok candidate, because they saw Kerry with a shotgun in some corn field in Iowa.

I agree this is preaching to the choir, but I think it is also indicative of a fear the Republicans have that Bush has alienated their conservative base by doing things like supporting AWB renewal, passing campaign finance reform, and the medicare drug bill.

These 3 things are liberal, Democratic ideas that Bush has stolen and made his own in the style popularized by our previous president.

The Republicans are pretty much stuck then with pointing out to its own party members that, no matter how disgusted you may be with Bush, Kerry will be worse.

This is a poor argument to use as a campaign strategy for the presidency of the world's only super power.

They know their party members aren't going to vote for Kerry. They are worried they will just stay home do to apathy towards Bush.

Write-ins for non-registered candidates are wasted votes--and by that I mean they're not counted, so they're literally wasted. Vote Libertarian or for somebody registered or just stay home.

The real point I was hoping to make here is that while we all knew Kerry was a committed anti-gun grabber, I had no idea what kind of lunatic you had to be to rate a 100% from the Brady Campaign.

A guy who proposes a bill banning manufacture, sale and even possession of handguns only manages a 50% from the Brady Campaign.

John Kerry gets a 100% rating. If proposing to ban handguns entirely from the public only gets you 50%, then how crazy do you have to be to get the full 100%? The fact that supporters of total gun bans like Edward Kennedy, Dianne Feinstein and Chuck Schumer all rate 100% as well should be a good clue.

Well Kerry has only voted in the Senate about a dozen times this year do to him campaigning. He did make sure and rush back to the Senate to vote for the AWB renewal. So he basically doesn't care about any legislation right now, unless it's against guns.

Maybe, but I can take this very valuable post, copy it, and then e-mail it to all kind of people I know who aren’t members of “the choir.†I can also make hardcopies that can be distributed in various places. There are all kinds of things I can do with this that Mr. Kerry and his supporters won’t like at all.

Information is a weapon – if it’s used as such.

And I will use it in the way intended. :what:

It is sad that our best hope for future gun ownership lays with the candidate who is pro-big corporate business to the extent that he's cut overtime pay for millions, slashed health care requirements, taken our national deficit to heights never dreamed of and introduced legislation to make millions of illegal immigrants *legal* so they can come and work for peanuts here.
Kerry on the other hand seems to want to raise taxes through the roof (don't all Democrats?) to pay for silly programs too numerous to count, clearly hates gun ownership among Americans (which thanks to my recent American Rifleman magazine, I've just been made aware of) and supports Hangun Control Inc. every step of the way. Truthfully I wanted to like Kerry, but I just cant bring myself to. With all the faults I've leveled against Pres. Bush, at least he's up front with what he's doing. There really no guesswork involved. Kerry (as with Clinton before him) seems a flip flopping liar, makes promises to the middle class he's not going to keep, promises new jobs for the masses (more help for the illegal aliens) and will have the US bending over for the UN and their wishes in no time. Pretty sure this is not a good thing, at all.
Whats a feller to do? Well, Bush deserves credit for a lot of good things he's done since he's been in office. I'm not stupid enough to blame the sorry economy 100% on him, the economy was going south before he became elected which probably helped him to get elected. War? War is hell, and if it seems to some that Bush took his eye off the ball (Bin Laden, Saudi Arabia) to go after Hussein, so what. I've always thought the move to annihillate Iraq was a good one because A: it's doable and B: it shows the rest of the world we're not taking anymore crap (hint hint Korea?) from anyone. So, Pres. Bush deserves high marks so far in my book. Still, I'm gonna have to hear some things from him to form a solid voting opinion for him before I can vote for him with a good conscience. Kerry can lie all he wants, but to elect him President would seem to be the same as putting Diane Feinstein in the oval office. And I can't possibly see a situation that would make me want Diane Feinstein to be President.
