How big of a change between first firing and second with brass?

First of all you never ever have the bullet against the lands as pressure could go the roof, or worse! You find the length of the cartridge resting against the lands and back it off a couple of thousandths. New brass typically comes sized already. Shoot the round then neck size only. This will keep you centered with the bore. This will give great accuracy and extend case life. I only ever full length resize my rifle cases for hunting as I need reliable feeding from the magazine.

What degree of precision are you looking for?

So I think what I'll end up doing is do all the brass prep, shoot the fireforming loads doing a ladder, and then I'll see how things change with fireformed brass.

Hdwhit, The Op is not asking about precision, he is asking about the difference between firing minimum length/full length sized brass and fire formed brass. He indicated there was .015" difference in length from the shoulder to the case head between new cases and once fired cases. In the perfect world that would mean the length of the chamber is .001" longer than a field reject length chamber if the chamber is a 30/06.

What does that mean? He needs to determine if his new cases are rejects; or he needs to determine the length of his chamber from the shoulder to the bolt face. When I have long chambers I add to the length of the case between the datum/shoulder and case head to off set the length of the chamber.

And then there is the never answered question: What receiver, is the rifle, a control feed or a push feed? I have control feed rifles with excessive clearance, when fired the long chamber has no effect on case head separation/

I’m going to try and answer this question with some down range results.

I’ve signed up for my first F Class match for next weeked so i was at the range today verifying my load and practing a little bit. I was using Lapua brass on it’s 10th cycle and shot these groups at 200 yards

5 shot group

And 20 shot group

I’m loading up some new Lapua brass tonight with the same load and will shoot the same groups tomorrow morning and post the results
