To the best of my knowledge, the closest thousand yard range is just outside Boise, Idaho, about six hours east.

general advice for people looking to shoot long range is to get involved with your local PRS club. There are ranges popping up all over the place. It's growing like crazy. And a lot of it is on private land, but if you get to know people and occasionally show up and help out, like volunteer to RO a match or something, they're usually more than happy to let you shoot on their land.

Sweet. I would love those arraingments! Lots of 100, one 200 (not that expensive, but not that cheap), 300 at a little drive that isn't way expensive (200 start, 100 yr) that you have to have a member sponser. Beyond that, not sure if it exists, sadly. Near KC, MO. If I am missing something, sing out please!

About 40 minutes to Ben avery or 45 minutes the other way and I've found a 1875m (buddy lazed the distance) out in the desert that costs nothing but gas and ammunition.

Many things suck about living in CA, but shooting long range is not one of them. I have a weekend home in the desert about two hours away where I can shoot for free and shoot as far as I want. I am working on an exit plan from CA, but will most likely stay in the west where we can shoot on public land.

I thought there was at least one, just can't remember off the top of my head. There are several 600yd ranges as well.

ASC in Waterman has ranges to 600yds. Downside, membership is currently $480.00/yr. (And a 1 1/2+ hour ride for you from Atkinson).

I think there's a range south of Bismarck here that I think is 1,000 yards. Never been there though since I have my own range that is marked up to 1,000 meters and has a TRPs for both 1,500 and 2,000 meters should I decide to go out that far.

Colorado Rifle Club (www.crci.org) offers a 1000 yard range with annual club membership running $65/yr for individuals and $95/yr for families. Located north of Byers, CO about an hour east of Denver.

CRC also offers pistol range, rimfire range, 100 & 200 yds range, 500 meter steel target range, 12 3-sided 100yd berms for action shooting as well as shotgun and archery areas. Range hosts numerous competitions in almost every shooting discipline (http://crci.org/EventSchedule/tabid/2513/Default.aspx) on weekends that are also open to the public. It is nearly empty during the week.
