I shot my 1944 No. 4 MkI as well as BamBam-31's Garand (in .308 ). A few of the other guys I saw at the range were shooting Garands, '03A3's, and Enfields also.

And yes, Max, you are right to bring up the sacrifices of the Russians on the eastern front. Without your country's help we might still be fighting the Nazis today.

Watched Saving Private Ryan, played some Battlefield 1942 and tried to think of all the stories my grandfather had told over the years about the war. He went in a day or two after D-Day as a Tech Sergeant 377th Infantry regiment.

I think my next purchase is going to be a Garand.

To NRA4LIFE and Mauserlady's daughter, happy birthday. I just turned 23 myself.

During my smoke breaks on Sunday, I watched infantrymen preparing for their trip to Iraq. The majority of them were under 30.

Some of my buddies were in the groups. The odds of every single one coming home without any scars is virtually zero. How many will come home in a plastic bag? Gods, I hope none. Soon enough I'll probably be joining them.

Such is the way of things. What will people in 60 plus years be thinking of my generation's wars?

Iraq is just a bar fight compared to WWII .Ya I appreciate the GOOD job the guys are doing over there and I'm glad we went , I support it 100% . But rest assured the generations to come will not be talking about it like we do WWII , hell it don't even compare to Vietnam . I spent the day watching war movies and History channel with my wife ,also putzed around in the GUN room .

I took my transferable Thompson SMG and my USGI Remington Rand to the range. Sent about 800 rounds downrange on steelplates & bowling pins.

Went home and gave them a through cleaning, had a few beers and BBQ'd some ribs.

I don't shoot either gun very much, but this was a special day.

You must mean Memorial Day? I don't celebrate that either. For me it is a somber time and I "observe" it.

On June 6th this year, I was at a joint NFA/SASS match. We were remembering a recently deceased shooter, Unique Phil, who shot Cowboy matches and Submachinegun matches. We teamed up one Cowboy with one subgunner, and had a great team match.

You're right . I meant "In honor of those who participated, I observed D-Day by going to the range and shooting my 1944 vintage military rifle. Other shooters were also observing D-Day by doing the same, although one guy I know whose name I won't mention brought out a .308 Garand and an Enfield No. 4 MKII that was made in 1955 ."

I myself took two weeks off to drive to Normandy from Switzerland in a 1942 Willys Jeep to meet and congtratulate the heroes to whom we owe our freedom... Great time indeed!

WOW !! Now that's the way to pay tribute to those men . Must have been very cool to see those guys parachuting in . How were they received by the locals ?? Better yet , how was the ride ?? hahahah those jeeps are rough riding sons a guns . Tell us more about the trip please .
