I agree with Jim. I have done several marlins by putting in a slightly lighter trigger spring and then polishing. It improved the trigger a great deal. Do not go too light on the spring and only lightly polish the metal parts. The trigger in this gun was never designed as a target trigger and safety is the most important thing. Be sure to cock your unloaded gun and drop it smartly on the butt several times to be sure that the hammer does not fall after you have worked on it.
