How do you feel about Dicks not selling “assault” rifles?

I don't care about their decision not to sell AR's or other particular gear. I wasn't buying any of that stuff there, anyway. I DO care, however, about them affirmatively advocating for legal restrictions on things that I like to buy and use. THAT will cost them my business.
 
It has been a long time... but I'm pretty sure this isn't the first time Dicks has done that.

Make the big virtue-signaling stand, then quietly phase the product lines back in.
 
What's with the lawsuit answer all the time? It's a private business, they can refuse service to anyone and set their own polices as long as they don't violate civil rights. Age discrimination ? Really.


Seem to remember something about bakers, wedding cakes, and the Supreme Court not too long ago. It probably depends on which side of the isle you offend?
 
Truth be told , If Dick`s went out of business tomorrow I doubt many would miss them.
Probably only the employees.
That's about my take on Dicks. Walmart would be a different story however. I agree that if they advocate further restrictions (legislatively), I will cease doing business at Dicks. They can sell whatever they want to in their stores and I am free to decide IF I want to do business there.
 
Dickhead's Sporting Goods hasn't been the responsible gun owner's friend for a long time. Its just more obvious now. Wally World can go to hell too.
 
I don't care much about Dick's. They are an over-priced retail outlet that is probably going out of business in the near future. There's one in my town and I tried it out a few times. It was almost always empty. I did buy some ammo there once that was on sale. I got a laugh when the clerk asked me if I was a legal citizen; a question that management required their staff to ask of anyone buying ammo. I asked them if they really thought I would answer honestly if I wasn't. This empty-headeed reaction to gun violence is the same thing they did some years ago. It won't matter much to anyone, but I'll take my business elsewhere and encourage others to do the same.
 
I think AR 's are plastic junk BUT one step leads to another. I will NEVER shop there again.


Hah, to each is own I guess. The only plastic parts are the buttstock, pistol grip and handguard! Unless of course you get a polymer lower AR lol then yeah that to me is junk, but some still disagree.
 
Look at their financials, key performance indicators, and five year trend on stock price and you will be unimpressed.
 
I can't remember the last time I was in a DSG let alone bought anything. They sold out the gun community a long time ago, this is just another nail in their coffin as far as I'm concerned.
 
Dicks is pretty much the crappyest big sporting goods store. It’s where city folks buy jogging gear. No surprise they wouldn’t want to sell guns.
 
To me, it just seems like Dicks not selling ARs' is like McDonalds not selling Big Macs, because someone said they were bad for you. What are you in business for, then?
 
I never bought any guns or ammo there because of the high prices.
I used to buy golf stuff there because they have a great selection of that.

However, I stopped shopping there after the anti-gun pandering they did after Sandyhook. Haven't spent a dime in there since then. This only reinforces that.
 
Either a store has what I want or not. I don't get mad when sporting goods store dump the majority of their hunting clothing in the off season. I don't suddenly proclaim them anti-hunting because they no longer carry a full line of gear that I want right now.

I don't see my local gun shop as anti-gun because they don't carry the ammo I want.

People just seem to preoccupied with wanting to find reasons to be offended.
 
I'm and old guy,but Dicks and Walmart saying they won't sell guns to people under 21 in States where it's legal gripes my butt.
If you are old enough at 18 to serve your country and be in a shooting war/police action/whatever they want to call it, you should be old enough to buy and own a gun, and old enough to buy and drink a cold beer if you want one.
Maybe we need to raise the voting and draft age to 21 as well if we want to be fair about it.
I remember when I went to work at my first "real" job at 16 I couldn't vote or buy beer, but I was sure old enough to pay income tax.
 
Used to buy gun or cycling stuff from them if it was heavily discounted normally a item they weren't planning on restocking but I haven't darkened their door sense sandyhook
 
A fellow I know pretty well worked for Dick's for about three years, on and off, part time and full time. In fact, he worked for several "large box" sporting goods retailers. Dick's is the only one that hasn't disappeared, but that is more by accident than design. All of the companies for which he worked had one thing in common -- they really didn't give a rat's a... about the sportsman or the customer, they just wanted to take his/her money. Here are a few examples of the stupid things that he told me Dick's management -- at corporate and/or local level -- has done over the years:
1. Stop selling handguns -- which the company did many years ago -- because they admit they're not bright enough to figure out the laws regarding handguns from state to state, but then announce that it was because of the company's commitment to "public safety."
2. Force employees to stay after closing time so that all employees can be frisked for stolen merchandise. This one cost them a class action lawsuit.
3. Tell all employees that "we know you're stealing us blind and we're going to stop it." Then hire managers and assistant managers, including gay guys, who get a kick out of groping employees in the name of security.
4. Complain that theft is a major problem and then fire employees for stopping thieves, including at least one security guard caught stealing merchandise!
5. Order 2 of product "X" in in 50 different sizes or styles, but when the product arrives, check into inventory 100 of product "X" in one size or style. When the products go through the scanners at the registers, however, they are correctly counted. As a result the store inventory indicates you sold items you never received and should still have 98 of that one size/style of item "X" still on the shelf. Then conclude that because the inventory is wrong, the employees must have stolen the "missing" inventory.
6. Hire "buyers" to purchase products such as "terminal tackle" in the fishing department (anything that goes on the end of a fishing line), who have never been fishing a day in their lives! When questioned about the wisdom of such practice, defend it by saying that in the absence of any knowledge upon which to base decisions about these products, the buyer won't be swayed by "brand loyalty."
7. Hire managers from outside the company to show up at a store and "inspire the employees" rather than promote from within. And hire managers from considerable distances from the store while promising them that they will be eligible for a transfer to a store closer to their home as soon as they "prove" themselves. Then never following through on that "promise" as a way of keeping those managers who are meek, mild and dependent on the company.
8. In an attempt to control costs, refuse to turn on the lights in the store before the store opens, leaving the employees to wonder around in the dark trying to stock shelves, etc. while wearing head light bands from the camping department.
9. Force employees to follow "plan-o-grams" from home office regarding the arrangement of products on shelves even though the linear feet of shelving varies from store to store. Telling employees to pile hundreds of pound of lead shot on shelving units that simply will not support the weight and then physically attacking the employees when the shelving unit collapses.
10. Focusing on selling cheep garbage made in China and then relying on the customers being "too dumb or lazy" to return it when it breaks or doesn't function properly.
11. Not having the products offered in advertising because studies have shown that the majority of customers who arrive looking for advertised products will accept substitute products that have higher margins.
12. Telling employees that it doesn't really matter what they do as long as they are selling .98 cent tee shirts made in China for $19.99.
This is just a few. I could go on and on, but you get the picture.

I have been in two different Dick`s stores in the Minneapolis area one time each. I did not see any reason to return.
 
I've read on other forums that Dicks had a sale on Troy AR-15s right before sandy hook, and then refused to deliver them to all of the people who had pre-ordered them, instead giving them a refund and a gift card. Since they had already taken delivery of the rifles from Troy they hung onto them for awhile and then sold them through field and stream at much higher prices. If you even mention Dicks on the PAFOA forum you will be scolded by the moderators and then mobbed by the rest of the group.
I never saw any mention of that here, most discussion revolves around them just refusing to sell AR's, and I don't know how much truth there is to the other story. I do avoid shopping there as much as possible but it's a long drive to cabelas or a gun shop that carries outdoor gear and I can't always wait for something to be shipped.

This is retail management SOP across most industries, not just sporting goods.
Just because somebody has a MBA doesn't mean they're competent, intelligent, or sane.
