As in, where do you put your thumbs? I'm trying to figure out how to hold my new Jericho and I figure I'd nab more of you guys with the word Witness anyways. I can't get a thumbs forward grip to work because my support thumb kinda falls into the relief behind the trigger. I like the thumb over thumb grip because it feels tighter, but I kinda brush against the mag release and that makes me a little uneasy.

So, any pointers on how you hold your Witness .45?

I think the the Witness guys (and CZ guys) put their thumb on the safety just like 1911 and Hi-Power guys.

However, doesn't the Jericho have the safety/decocker on the slide?

That would make a difference.

^ yes mine does have the slide mounted safety, thats whats making me fiddle around with my thumbs. I haven't shot it a lot yet so I'm not positive on what a good grip would be, but i'm just looking for some pointers at this time.

i only have a picture using a Sig, but i use the same grip with most handguns, including the EAA clones, unless the design requires me to ride the thumb safety like the 1911. here's how i place my strong hand:

then i use my support hand to fill the open area...note that i clear both the mag release and the slide stop, there is not pressure applied to the gun by either thumb

the thumb over thumb (locking thumbs, locked down thumb) grip does negate the advantages of the thumb forward grip. you can bring more pressure to bear on the gun with your strong hand, but you need to be aware that you also
1. run the risk of closing the natural pocket where the butt should index
2. you compromise support hand grip by limiting the available contact area
3. push your shots by applying pressure with the strong thumb
4. likely milk the grip during trigger press and compromise trigger management

I shoot my CZs with my right thumb on the safety, left thumb on the slide release.
Most natural feeling gun I have ever shot.
Everything just clicks in.

Witnesses are a lot thicker / bigger gun tho so I am not sure that counts as helping.
