How do you measure a front sight

I need to replace the front sight on a Marlin 1894c lever action. Following the good advice on some other threads I have removed the old sight from left to right. So far, so good. I would like to replace it with a Williams fire sight.

How are these measured? On the midway page they give specifications for height and width. Width is fairly straightforward. My vernier says the old sight was .250.

Height though bothers me. When they measure height is the dovetail included, or is it just the portion from the base (sitting on top of the dovetail) to the top of the sight?

I hope the question is clear.

Dial I suppose you'd call it (actually a mechanical slide - not super precise)

However I am pretty sure I measured the old sight correctly. I came up with .250 for the width and .375 for the height - which seemed to be a standard size. The replacement is already on its way.

Thanks again.
