This is an interesting topic for discussion,,,
I've been struggling to find a good method myself.
The deal is I own 65 handguns and rifles,,,
But I also have most of the original boxes as well,,,
Along with original grips I have replaced out and various accessories.
I have all of my guns catalogued for my heirs,,,
And my younger brother knows where the catalog is,,,
But I need to somehow tie the "extra stuff" to the proper guns.
I'm trying something now that might work,,,
I bought some heavy duty paper gift bags with handles,,,
I took a picture of one of my guns and photo-shopped the make, model, & serial number.
Next I spray glued that picture to the bag,,,
Then I placed everything that goes with the gun inside it.
Next time they go on sale at Wal Mart,,,
I'll buy a dozen of those stack-able plastic egg crates,,,
I should be able to fit 3-4 bags inside each of the egg crates.
Then some quick printed label for each egg crate,,,
Denoting the guns it holds the accessories for.
I know what and where every little item is,,,
But if my Brother has to dole out my guns after I die,,,
This system should make it a whole lot easier for him to manage.
For the rifles I'll just leave everything in the original boxes,,,
But still do the picture with make, model, & serial number affixed to them,,,
The few I don't have the boxes for will share egg crate space with the handgun bags.
I do realize this will take up a decent amount of closet room,,,
But I do feel the effort will be worth it in the long run.
