A pump gun can be stored "cruiser ready", pump locked forward on an empty chamber, but how do the learned members here store their semi-auto shotguns that are used for self defense?
Thank you for any replies.

Only have one semi-auto shotgun & its in the arms room in the rack unloaded..........SORRY no help.

If I was going to use mine for that, chamber open, round "ghost loaded", mag full unless I had a way to secure it from falling, then chamber loaded and safety on

All of my long guns are chamber empty, magazine loaded, safety off.

Chamber empty, tube loaded, safety ON.

I don't run around in the middle of the night with a loaded shotgun off safety.

I have a Saiga, SBS. I keep it inside the "retreat" room (master bedroom) with the mag out. This is to keep the grandkids from any possible accident. The full mag is kept well hidden, less than a second away.

'Cruiser ready': loaded mag, empty chamber, safety off.

If it's in my hands the chamber is loaded, extra round is fed into the mag to top it off, and the safety is off.

All the long guns have safeties but I don't normally use them. Either the gun is in my hands and the safety is off or the round in the chamber has been removed and the safety is off.

BSW.

Even my pump shotguns I leave the slide unlocked, with empty chamber, safety off and full tube.

Auto-loaders are the same, safety off, full magazine, empty chamber, and bolt released forward. I've tried with bolt locked back, but after having a couple bolts slam forward on a live round when the release was bumped I decided that was a pretty dangerous thing to do. It only takes a second to rack a charging handle and is an easier large muscle group movement than releasing a slide lock.

Hmm, I just got my first auto shotgun, so I haven't put a lot of thought into this yet.
At home I store my pump with the safety off, the pump back with a round held in by the extractors.
In my truck I have a full mag with no round in the chamber with the safety off.
At work we keep the shotguns with the safety on & pump back with an empty chamber, but with a round nearby to load in the ejection port if we want.
