How does .303, 8mm, 7.62x54r, and 30-06 stack up?

All this talk about military surplus rifles made me dig this one out, shoot it just to remember how, clean it and put it away again. It's a 1942 Husqvarna. I put a mojo sight on it. IIRC I paid $95 for it a few years back. The target is 100 yards offhand using hasty sling.

Fun. I think I should buy a few boxes of Prvi 140 soft point and shoot it more often.

7x57 is indeed a fine cartridge. In a well made large ring Mauser, you can safely get 2750 FPS with a 162 grain bullet, and that is very effective.
........ I second that motion.... and consider the 7x57 one of those cartridges that responds well to handloading. My mod. 1908 Brazilian 7x57 large ring gets almost all handloads these days. Without excessive recoil and no muzzle blast. Except you don't see things like this for sale as much as in the past. But if a nice one turns up and the price is right.......... I'd recommend it.
