How far do you travel to the shooting range?

About 8 miles one way, and 10 miles the other. My club has 2 locations, and I'm in-between them. The nearest one is the one I shoot steel at twice a week, and they've recently made me range officer for that. I also cut grass there, normally. It has a separate pistol range, secluded from the 25, 50, and 100 yard ranges. The other place has ranges up to 600 yards. I've been scouting it out but never shot there, though I plan to take my AR-10 there this summer.

30 minutes for my favorite indoor range. There are closer one’s just not as nice. And 1.5 hours for outdoor public range. Man I miss the 90s. Could knock on a landowner door and get permission to hunt/shoot/fish without any problems. Now they tell you to **** there property. To many idiots and sue happy folks.

I have a range on my farm. It's set up for 25 pistol and 75 rifle right now, but I can go up to 150 yards or so. If I meet folks that don't have a place I invite them. No one takes me up on it though, guess I put people off.

I moved from a very rural area to a semi-rural area. In this new location, we have a state run range, but the rules are :

  • You are not allowed to have more than 3 bullets in any detachable magazine at a time.
  • You must wait 3 seconds between each shot
  • You cannot use targets that look like people
A bunch of straight up Elmer Fudd BS. There's another private range up here and I know someone who uses it, but COVID-19 / the riots resulted in a ton of new firearms owners showing up at that range and doing so much unsafe stuff they basically closed registration until next January.

The only other range I know of is 45 minutes away (across the highway) and it's only 100 yards.

Where do you shoot at? How far do you drive to get to your range? Do you like it?

My goal is to get enough property that I can eventually just shoot there.

I have a 200 yard range out back of the house, but my Rifle Club Range is 11 miles from here. I prefer to shoot at the Club in Augusta, ME, especially when its buggy here in the spring.

It takes me about 12 to 15 minutes at an average speed of, oh, around 40 - 45 mph to get there. I'd guess 7 to 8 miles (+ or -).

In Brooklyn, NY, where I have had a home for more than 40 years, there is an indoor range at a private club five blocks from my home.
In PA, where I have had a home for 26 years, there is a PAGC range two miles from my home. There is a gun club of which I am a member, that has a 200 yard rifle range, skeet towers, ATA and International (Bunker) Trap, and a complete CAS village....twenty miles away.

Indoor ranges I have 3 within about a 1/2 hour drive. Outdoor is another story. I have membership at a nice outdoor range but it's about a hour or more drive. Open 365 days a year but snow and ice during the winters. The big downside to living in the suburbs of a city.

You might want to go back and re-read what you wrote. There is a connection between the two you know.

That said, I travel 30 miles to my "home" range. Been a member 7 years and have no plans to change. Most days, I'm the only one on the 300 yard rifle range.

About 33 miles and 95% open road with no stop lights /signs. That's for my club which has over 400 acres with rifle, (50, 100, & 200 yd.), pistol, trap, skeet, 5 stand and sporting clays. Although I sometimes hit my buddies back yard with his small ( out to about 60-75 yd.) home range. Mostly do .22's & handguns there and it's only 14 miles away. Seems like indoor ranges are becoming more common and there are a few around here but not close enough to get me interested. I should try one someday as I've never shot at an indoor range.

It's about 10 steps from the gun room to the back patio where I can shoot 22LR and pistol. Next closest is the neighbor about 300 yards away that has a 50, 100, and 500 yard range.

That being said, a lot of my shooting is done 30 minutes away at a 100 yard range that has nice benches and steel targets. 30 minutes the other way is a 1000 yard range with benches and targets.
