What do you pack when going rifle shooting at the range?

Also how far do you shoot when using iron sights and how far when using what optics on what gun?

tool kit,
cleaning kit with sectioned rod for tapping out stuck cartridges
staple gun and staples
binoculars
sand bag
targets
extra eye and ear protection
bug spray
bottle of water
first aid kit with real trauma kit
cell phone
sidearm

up to 100 yards for iron sights,\

Oh lord. It's a production when I go. I have a backpack which is usually jammed. In the pack I'll have small tools, like allen wrenches or a leatherman, my ammo, and targets, a towel for the bench since the carpet on the shooting bench will really wear you out. A rag, and a bottle of alcohol, my ear muffs, foam ear plugs and shooting glasses. That's just in the pack.

Beyond that, I have a set of Caldwell Dead Shot bags that I take, as well as a "Bulls Bag", depending on the kind of shooting I'm doing or gun I'm taking. A raised rest for the bulls bag to make it high enough, and a cleaning rod.

The rest of the production is the guns themselves. As for the range, unless I'm shooting 22's (centerfire or rimfire) I'm typically shooting at 200 yards.

Rifle in case
Cleaning kit in the rifle case
Ammo in a military ammo can
Targets
Money
Shooting glasses
USMC earplugs
Some towels to lay on if I want to shoot prone
Pocket knife / multi-tool

My range doesn't allow taking apart rifles to clean or fix. Only a bore swab is ok. My binoculars are 10x and so is my scope, so I don't bother with binoculars. I shoot off a bipod and don't use bags or any of that.

besides the rifles and ammo -

My range bag:
front rest
rear bag
targets
target spots
staple gun & staples
tape
magic marker
tool kit
eyes and ears
club ID

I also usually bring a cleaning stand and rod, spotting scope. Sometimes a chrony. Bottle or two of water. The first aid kit is always in the truck anyway.

Scoped rifles I shoot at 100 and 200 yards mostly, for groups. Open sighted centerfires I usually enjoy shooting at the clangers, which are at 154 yds.

Making a production of it must be a Austin thing.
We have a large bag called "The Range Kit" inside you will find eyes, and ears in excess. Several Pistol in cases, magazines, enough ammo to make the bag impossible for one person to carry. Cleaning kit, tool kit, targets, a little cash, ID cards, extra clothing, first aide kit, blanket, rope, knife, and a few plastic bags. I am sure I am leaving a few things off the list.....

Not in the range kit, would be the long guns and a small cooler with drinks, lunches, and snacks.

Irons out to 50yds, and we dont much shoot beyond 200yds.

Rifle
Ammo
Banket-For laying on when prone and rolled up as a rest when shooting from bench
Letherman
Targets
Target Stand-usually just a box
Tape or Staple Gun-usually tape
Water
Earplugs or Muffs
Sunglasses

I usually shoot 25yds with irons (mainly because it is a rimfire) but occasionally out to 100yds. I shoot between 50-250 with scoped rifles.

I have a rolling soft tool box from Home Depot to go along with the gun cases:

Usually 2-3 guns
ammo for each
spotting scope
shoulder pads
cleaning gear
targets
tool kit
chrony
ear protection
towel
water

Irons and red dots out to 100, scopes ranging from 1.5-4.5 up to 6.5x20 for out to 600.

-ear plugs
-more ammo than i could ever shoot in one sitting
-every rifle i have a case for
-targets

you may note the lack of eye protection. my glasses serve that niche.

Don't mean to thread jack, but here's another question you can include in your post...

How long do you spend at the range during a typical range session?

New guy here. Love the site!
I pack:
Bugspray
rifle and pistol(s)
ammo
spotting scope
handtools
surveyors tape (for wind)
2 sets earmuffs
camera
And, of course: TARBOT
:)

I pack ammo, rifles, eye protection, inner and outer ear protection, many tools, targets (both paper and other items), stripper clips/en-bloc clips, a mat or rug, marker, club membership, tape, water, phone, wallet, car keys, pants, and a snack.

My shooting sessions tend to be long--around four hours. I shoot centerfire rifles from 200 yards to 600 yards.

Usually 4-5 guns
ammo for each
bench rest
spotting scope
cleaning rods, patches, etc.
lots of different types of targets
tools
ear plugs
towel
water
Notebook for recording results of reloads.

Iron sights on milsurps out to 50, scopes for out to 300. 300 is max at my range.

• 2-3 rifles in soft cases, and maybe a handgun
• .30 Ammo cans with loaded magazines for whatever is going with me
• Tackle box that contains everything needed to clean a gun, everything needed to adjust sights on any gun, and various tools and first aid supplies
• 2X ear protection, 2 binoculars (10X and 16X), shooting glasses, bug spray and targets live permanently in the trunk of my car
• Some sort of fruit juice, tea or whatever
• I usually get to the range at 8:00 AM opening and my stay anywhere from 2-5 hours

guns, ammo for guns, ear plugs, quart of water, Sidearm, gerber multitool and whatever cleaning equipment came from the arsenal with whichever particular gun ......... my only interest are milsurps..... they generally don't require a whole lot in the way of gear or spare parts (seldom have an AR with me) just load and shoot.... if I'm usin em in the field I'm not going to be packin a bunch of junk so why do it when practicing? Any gun thats not 200% reliable and able to stand on its own doesn't remain in my collection or gets relegated to wall hanger, an AK is always close at hand as I shoot in the desert and once many years ago it was popular to visit known desert shooting spots.. wait till the guy shooting was empty and rob him after feigning interest etc...... been 14 years since the last case but I still I never am without a locked/loaded AK close by usually outa sight. usually from 3-7 hours depends on the temps summer it hits 120+ so usually a few hours is it unless am on my own range....

-rifles in soft cases.
-toolbag containing tools... ammo, tape, earplugs/muffs, safety glasses, markers, staplegun, towel and some rags, bug spray, maybe a can of spray paint.
-couple small beanbag rests.
-my 6x12 steel gong for 100 yards and under.
-folding chair.
-water.
-whatever targets I've made out of cardboard, if shooting for groups.

i shoot irons only on all centerfire rifles from 50 to 300 yards. mostly ring steel, but occasionally shoot groups at 100.

same for revolvers, steel at 10, 25, and 50 yards.

rimfire .22lr has a scope and I shoot groups with it at 50 yards.

Rifles in hard cases
Gun box ( contains screwdriver set, cleaning patches ,jags , oil, solvent, pistol mat, pistol rods, earplugs, it's a small plastic toolbox with a tray inside)
Spotting scope ( box contains scope, 20x-45x, short stand, long stand)
Ammo in cans ( 30 and 50 cal mil spec)
empty can for empties
cleaning rod
I shoot mainly at public ranges here
Range session lasts 3-6 hours
Matches can last 3-9 hrs, depending on the match

My .40SW, (carry gun), my rifle and bullets.

100, 200, and 300 yds, AR10B iron sights
100, 200, and 300 yds, M1 Garand, iron sights.
100, 200, and 300 yds CZ 527, 7.62x39mm, cheap bushnell scope.
Not at the same time either, It's too heavy to pack all that crap for a couple of hours shooting time.

I take:

Firearms I plan on shooting
Ammunition for each firearm
Leatherman Wave (contains pretty much all the tools I ever need for working on guns).
Field cleaning kit
Earmuffs
Eye protection
Rest (if needed)
Clay thrower/clays (if needed)

The range is limited to 300 yards, so that's about as far as I shoot, though I shoot more often at 100 yards (either offhand or when sighting in). Doesn't matter whether I have optics mounted or not (unless I'm shooting a .22LR; then I limit it to about 100 yards).

Well, I am lucky enough to not have to go to public ranges as my neighbor and I set up a place on his farm where we can shoot out to 450 yds. (if desired), So all I really need is...

Gun
Ammo
Ear/eye protection
Spotting scope
Targets
sand bags

I have a 30-yd. "range" in my back yard for shooting .22s and pistols.
