How fast are your repeat hits?

Say, on a 10" vitals-circle, at 10 ft, with full charge ammo, using your ccw gun? I recommend that you not use anything with which you can't beat .25 second, because any punk with a .22lr autoloader can do that well. There could easily be more than one of them firing at you, too. Most shots in combat miss the target entirely, and most hits are poor ones. Repeat hit speed is vital, and many types of guns and loads make it very hard to attain. For instance, airwt .38 snubs, 357 snubs, .44 Special snubs (alloy frames) .40 cal pocket autos.

So 4 shots per second is what you think is good? Are we timing from the draw? From the first shot? .25 seconds between shots? From concealment? Back to target?

I prefer the Magpul model: in 2 seconds, from concealment to final shot, how many can you shoot? Answer? I have no idea, I don't own a shot timer. But it ain't slow.

Don't forget motion. In gunfights, both sides tend to be moving.

REPEAT?????
I consider myself lucky if I can hit on the first shot.... :D

If this person is indeed Davis, aka Gunkid, he was a low-level circuit shooter in the '70s and '80s.

He was busted for illegal weaponry, including homemade suppressors. He thinks he's special, or something.

He is, I believe, a felon, and is not allowed to own firearms any longer. Also, IIRC, he made a lot of his gun money from selling drugs.

If I do it right the first time there is no need for a repeat hit, How fast can I acquire a new moving target is the question.

My "test" is a 6'' circle at 18 feet.
I count the time only if both my first and second shot hit the circle.
With standard 230 gr. factory ammunition:
My Kimber CDP Compact around .29 average for 1st - 2nd shot, remember both must hit.
Using my Colt Light Weight Commander with XS Big Dot sights I cut this down to about .21 sec. average.

At that range, I can magdump a 10rd magazine from my sccy in about 8 seconds...but that's really pushing it, as it's starting to go from bad trigger form to horrible trigger form. Only so much can be done with such a long trigger pull.

Provided, the odds of having to play "Bruce Willis in Die Hard" are slim to none. We know the Piggly Wiggly is a giant funnel of death, but the armrored shopping carts aren't going to save you.

I only need one shot for most things. I will take a 2nd shot if I have too. A well aimed shot is better than 2 quick shots. Just read Wild Bill Hickocks history.

Hmmm, an M60 machine gun is firing about 600 rounds a minute or ten a second, .1 seconds per round. Not saying it can't be done, I've seen harder things on impossible shots. I'm just not sure it should be a goal. I can empty a G26, ten shots at 7 yards in about 6 seconds in a lot smaller group than that pretty routinely and I don't consider myself to be good. I'm really trying to bring that time down a little and keep it in a 3 inch group. Repeatable 2 inch groups, 10 shots in 5 seconds at 7 yards would make me very happy. I'd probably hang the target on my wall.

I pause just long enough between shots to let the slide cycle and load another cartridge.

With my revolvers, I don't have to pause at all.

Gunzee, there are a number of cowboy shooters who can draw at the beep, dump five in that target, holster, draw a second pistol and dump five. The best can do this just under three seconds. Be aware that they are cocking the pistol for each shot and the time includes reaction time, reholstering and another draw.

I prefer 00 buck from a 12 gauge shot gun. 8 at one time seem to work very effectively.

Fine gunhandling, to be sure. But let's see them do it with factory ammo. CAS has a power factor of 60. That means a 250 grain bullet only has to go 240 fps.......not exactly the "manstopper" the original load was. (250 @ 960 fps)

The fast thing I've done on the clock was at an IDPA meet. Three yards, three targets, two rounds each center mass. We started with our hands up as though being robbed, on the buzzer we were to draw and fire. I managed 2.78 seconds, all in the -0 rings, with the S&W 1911 9mm Pro Series I carry for work and a Safariland 6377ALS.

I think my videos can explain it better than I can with text.

I'm obviously a little faster with the 1911 given I've been shooting the for over 20 years.

I shoot as fast as I can and still hit the target. If I start to miss, I slow down. Over the years I've settled on a comfortable speed with the 1911 (seen above) and probably won't push myself much further. I'm getting old and honestly, nothing is to be gained by going faster, for me. I'm not a competition shooter and practice only for defensive purposes.
