I bought some Speer Gold Dot 124gr +p JHP Short Barrel 9mm ammo this past wknd on sale from a local store. I have some questions I was hoping some of yall could help me with;

1. What ballistic differences does 9mm Short Barrel vs Regular Gold Dot have when fired out of a short barrel? (brl length smaller then 4")

2. What ballistic differences does 9mm Short Barrel vs Regular Gold Dot have when fired out of a service length barrel? (brl length 4"-5"+)

Appreciate any help or info yall can give me!

Do you suppose Speer might better answer your questions since they are totally Speer Cartridge-related? I bought the "Short barrel" 38 Special ammo Gold Dot and I just trust that the ammo will do what it says it will do - have better performance from short (in this case 1 7/8") barrels!

Speer ballistics, including for the SB loads, here.

The table does not answer the question about firing SB loads from a service length barrel, but rather quotes ballistics for 9mm SB from 3.5" and for the 9mm Lawman loads from 4". Seeing as how they quote 1150 FPS muzzle for the SB 124s from a 3.5" (124s, wow!), and 1090 FPS for Lawman 124s from a 4", seems that their SB 9mm is plenty hot.

AFAIK the Short Barrel stuff is also made to expand at appropriate velocities.

I also have some Short Barrel .357, and it's not real fast for .357 (at least compared to the stuff I load). It's an attempt at a balance between expansion, velocity and recoil in a CC gun.
