How "Gun Friendly" is your place of work?

Many employers these days require vehicle search permission as a condition of employment. If you refuse to allow a search you are in violation of the employee policies/handbook and that's grounds for discipline up to/including termination.

In other words: refusing a search is not criminal but can cost you your job.

My employer adopted such a policy (and several anti-gun/anti-CHL policies) a couple years ago at the advice of an outside "hr consultant" company. Basically the HR consultants said it was a CYA for the company... the company told everyone who complained "We've never searched anybody, we've never had an issue with people carrying in the office, and none of that is going to change so if you do sign acknowledgment of the new policies what's the big deal? If you don't sign you'll be fired for sure...." People signed... but I know for a fact that several indiscreet people (not me) violate the new policy.

At my current job, no guns are allowed in the building (legally, yes, but it can cost you your job). Nothing about the car or parking lot. My boss knows I carry (outside of the office) and it hasn't been an issue. In fact, they joke about it. All in all, not too bad in today's society. I have had jobs where we brought guns in all the time and worked on them or just showed our toys to each other. :)

Work for a railroad. No weapons on company property. They did fire a guy in our department 15 years ago for having a Model 29 Smith on property. He didn't help himself as they had him on video cleaning the piece and dry firing it when he was supposed to be working.

7 of the 10 folks I work with own guns. Another coworker's brother owns the indoor range in town.

One of the CinderDicks (railroad cops) carries a Sigma .40 cal. He and I went halves on an order of extra magazines awhile back.

The HR folks gave us all the workplace violence mantra about fascination with weapons and gun rags, but between 2 of us we keep a 1 foot pile of Shotgun News, Handguns, American Rifleman and Handloading magazines in the lunchroom.

Yes and no

One of my fellow workers is pro gun, two are cool with guns and are interested in going shooting, and two are new and it hasn't come up yet. Our company, however, bans weapons for our safety.

ETA: My workplace is not a gun-free zone, as far as customers are concerned.

Not too bad. Just can't take them in the buildings. EXCEPT for the indoor pistol range on campus.:D

I work in a university in the English department.
I've had folks tell me that because I like to target shoot, I would probably enjoy killing people for sport.

Yeah. Quite friendly. They practically serve you tea and toast here.

I park my personnel truck on state prison property. From there I travel in my service truck. The management doesn't like guns in prison but the people that live there do.

My workplace is very gun-friendly (Piper Aviation Museum) we set up some displays for armed forces day last year which included a 1911a1 an M1 Carbine My Lee-Enfield no.4 mk 1 My Henry AR-7 clone and my Olympic Arms AR-15 with accompanying pictures and history. I also carry daily and being the resident "gun Nerd" my co-workers ask me to look at there guns when they don't work right so if your interested in light-plane aviation and will be in Central PA drop on by I'm there fri, sat, and sun.

Corp policy is no weapons
that being said here at our location, my boss knows i have permit, heck he discussed it with me and got his, know of at least 4 others that have a permit, one being a woman and i know she keeps her's in her purse.

it's pretty laid back here but conceal is concealed, my boss has a dont ask dont tell but if found out termination isnt out of the question.

sometimes i carry in the office otherwise its locked in the car. i just keep quiet about it.

now at my pt job at a retail store, its no weapons, store isnt posted but have employee policy, worst could happen is be fired ehh no biggie, i carry in a smart carry there, no way, take trash and boxes out at night and dumbster is in an ally, no other store open on our end, sell computers, tv's funiture and no freaking security cameras no way I'm not carrying especially after I was told about a lady that went up to a customer(he had money) told him to leave with her, she had a gun, if he said anything she would shoot the employees, this happened about 2 hrs before I got there for work, if i was there and she started shooting, i wouldve punched her clock, then punched out and waited for the police to arrive....

When I need to visit the secure gov sight nearby I lock the gun in my desk drawer.

ouch Ze..well said.

I'm in a dont ask dont tell kind of place. Many routinely carry, but only those that know what to look for can tell. It has yet to become a problem - hell as far as I know it's (carrying) NEVER been addressed in any "policy" statement where I work.

Sort of mixed....No guns on company property - where we work, but our shooting range is on company property also - only accessible from another entrance.

I own the company, and encourage all of my employees to acquire guns, get a CHL (if desired) and carry at work. Then again, I only employ adults :D

You can't have a "weapon" on the property. Including in the trunk of your car and since your vehicle is on their property it is subject to being searched....you know, for the safety of the people.:banghead:

Not friendly at all, you'll get fired etc etc. Really hoping the FL "guns locked up in your car" bill passes. As some have pointed out, FL is an "at will" employment state so this law really won't make a whole lot of difference, but I still want it to pass, as it's better than nothing.

My work in fine with it. In fact my boss is encouraging me to get my CCL and even offered to help pay for it. We talk about guns fairly often and plan on going shooting as his dads place once I get my 12ga. I am a driver at a towing company and we plan to start doing Repos soon so I guess I am in a different category from some of you.;)

"Officially" totally unfriendly to employees (but not customers - IE, at least we ain't got a "rob us, we're defenseless!" sign on the door). But unlike lots of other replies I read, it's NOT a "Zero Tolerance" :barf: thing. "Discipline up to or including termination" leaves a lot of wiggle room, as it OUGHT to.

UN-officially, I figure it could be worse. Like most any other place these days, you have to agree to consent to searches of your locker and vehicle, but in 9 years with the company no one's ever actually CONDUCTED a search. And I know of at least two employees that carry (or carrieD in one case) in their vehicles and aren't too shy about it. One of them left for unrelated reasons.
