Not all are full to the top but the 7.62x54r stuff weights a ton and its at the bottom, how much can you stack on cans with weight limits? without crushing/damaging the boxes? if 4x stacked in a row each can weight over 30lbs each is that safe!?

Ignore the pellet guns

I don't know what the limit is, but it would be a lot more than 4 cans no matter how much stuff is in them. They are made of a pretty heavy gauge steel.

Don't stack them so high that they fall over on you.

Using any civilian ammo (i.e. not depleted uranium AP) I think you would be safe stacking at least 10 or 12 high, probably a lot higher.

Unless your house is SOG (slab on grade) your floor will give way before the bottom can. You could probably stack em' to the ceiling unless you fill em with lead (pure lead). Your typical ammo cans was designed pre-WWII, when they built stuff strong...which is why most are still around.

:)

You can stack 'em as high as you can lift 'em. Just remember though, the one you need will always be on the bottom. It's one of Murphy's Laws.

Why not just build shelves with a piece of 1 inch pine for the shelves. That could easily hold ammo cans if you built it right with minimal loss of space. Then you could also access the bottom can without moving them all.

Apparently 5 is the standard (see above)...then you need a pallet to keep it from toppling over.

:)

The disparity lies in how high I CAN stack them compared to how high I WANT to stack them. --Stork

:rolleyes:I need that one in red! :what:

Thanks guys, I did not know how much force was allowed to be stacked or what.

UncleMike, its funny that you say that because my dad bought a bunch of them a long time ago. They are great for storage of things that you don't being weathered, and he uses them for lots of things. Out of the 10-12 he has, he gave me 4 to fill with my .22lr ammo.

W.E.G. I believe those are probably empty. I wish I had access to see for myself. I'm with you Uncle Mike now if you can find the cans they are fairly pricey. I have heard the rumor that the guberment crushed lots of these and I can believe that rumor due to some of the stunts they pull.

The gun range I go to has these. Great priced. Thats where all but 2 came from
