how hot are wolf primers?

Sounds like no one has tried them yet. I almost bought some at the gun show last weekend, they were $4. per thousand cheaper than the popular brands. But I chickened out at the last moment. I should have talked to the dealer, he is our major local supplier of reloading components and tools.
A lot of guys hereabouts are using them with great success. The small rifle magnum primers are quite hard, and stand up to free floated firing pins quite well. The standard SR primers are as good as any others.
Haven't tried them myself, but have spoken with those who have and they have received thumbs up from everyone I've spoken to about them.

Wolf primers....never using them my self...

I bought 5000 small pistol and tried them out in .38 special, .357 magnum and 9mm.
They are a harder cup, like a Winchester or CCI. They always went bang everytime I shot one. They feel a smidge tighter than WIN primers, but it's only a problem on Seller & Belloit brass which fits very tight anyway.
As far as quality control goes, they look and package as nice as Winchesters. Seeing as how these are probably the same primers they load in their own ammo they are probably decent.
At least good enough for plinking ammo at $90/5000! A shame that's a "deal" but nowadays with prices they are.. WIN primers are over $30 a thousand around here IF you can find them.

OK, self-thread jack: How about igman brass in 7.62x54R? I'm thinking of picking some Igman ammo up, and want to reload it. It's boxer/brass, but what about quality? Better off buying graf's brass (Prvi)?

I just order 6k. They are on backorder, but at $81/k it's the best deal in town. If they come in at $81/k, I'll take them all (3k SP and 3k LP).

If I were reloading personal defense ammo...I'd stick with Winchester...but I'm reloading range fodder. If they are a tad warm or cool will not make or break my time at the range.
You folks who don't bother to get a C&R FFL are missing opportunities to buy at lower prices.

Ive had mixed luck with them. they seem softer then any except federals so that was good but ive got to say that there standard lg pistol are pretty lame and there mags are about like most standards. The small pistol stds. seem to work fine though.
I use 'em and have no complaints. I have had downright excellent success with the shotgun primers in my steel shot loads.
90% of what I shoot is cast,so I am by no means a bench rest shooter, but they are definitely capable of as good of performance as the other brands I have use over the years.
And as mentioned... the price is much better!

I've only loaded 550 (SP) so far, but they went bang every time. Compared to the primers on Remington UMC and WWB they are noticeably harder.
I have been using Wolf primers with my 38 and have not had one misfire and they feed and prime better than my Winchester. I will buy them again.
Word is that the Wolf primers are same primers that David Tubb uses for his own personal ammunition.
David Tubb is quoted as stating that he prefers Russian primers.

The Wolf as boxed in PMC labeling are just fine, the 223 probably is best off using the SRM primer instead of the small rifle primer. I have shot 2K SP through G17's with no problems! They are a good value!

I fired my reloads using Wolf large rifle magnum primers. Overall results; bad.
-I made 38 rounds of 280 Remington using Wolf primers with 165 grain bullets over 40 grains of H4895 powder.
-I made 50 rounds of 30-06 using Wolf primers with 180 grain bullets over 42 grains of H4895 powder.
-I made 15 each above caliber using same formula but using CCI magnum primers (the primers I mainly use).
-280 Remington with Wolf results: 3 duds 21 hang fires.
-30-06 with Wolf results: 1 dud 33 hang fires.
-Both calibers with CCI primers: no issues.
I had the RO (whom has been reloading for years) watch me fire and confirmed the hang fires. I don't know if I just got a bad batch of primers or that Wolf has some serious quality issues. I never had any problems with their factory ammo.

I didnt want to post my experince because i got jumped on another fourm but i gave a bunch of lg pistol small pistol and lg pistol mags recently. He had no problem and got good accuracy with the sm pistol stds. But with the lg pistol standards he had failures to fire and hang fires with wc820 and even with 231 which is a very easy powder to ignite. He also tested extream spreads with 110 using wolf ww cci 350s and fed mags and said the wolfs were getting beat out pretty bad for extream spreads and he felt they were not hotter the cci std large pistols. He said the mags didnt give squibs or misfires anyway. I bought a case of each and I guess ill burn them up with plinking ammo but it still makes me nervous about hangfires and especially squib firings. He said his average spreads with the mags and 820 was about 200 fps and with the standards using unique and 231 he had some as high as 300. I wont be buying anymore.
I have 10,000 Wolf primers. 5K small rifle for a 223 AR15 and 5K large pistol for a 1911 45. I have used about 1K of the large pistol with great results. No misfires or anything, they all go bang.

The lower cost was the reason I decided to give the Wolf primers a try. If I can get more bang for the buck, I'm all for it. I have heard good reviews about these primers and assumed I had nothing to loose. As you see in my previous post (#20), I had a bad experience with them. I have never tried their pistol or small rifle primers and it is possible that I just happened purchased a bad lot of large rifle primers. I did purchase them from the same vendor as my CCI primers and both were stored in the same manner, charged with the same pound of powder, and reloaded during the same session.
I really hope it was just a bad lot. I've been looking forward to saving money on primers and components as much as possible. I now have 912 primers that I question. The good news, the vendor (gun shop and range) said they would exchange the remaining for 1k of CCI.
Has anyone else tried Wolf's large rifle magnum primers?

I have used about 1000 PMC labelled small pistol primers without any problem. They are made in Russia also. Perhaps the same as Wolf? I am not aware of anything branded "Wolf" being imported into Australia. My dealer thought that they were produced in a new factory built with assistance from one of the big European manufacturers and not Russian technology as such.
Excellent primers. Always go bang. Softer than CCI. Never had any problems. Seat great with Speer brass.
