Wolf 5.56 primers? What gives?

Wolf states that the 5.56 primers are for .223 rem/5.56 Nato loading. They are slightly hotter than thier SR Magnum primers. I wasn't aware loading for my AR required "extra hot" primers. Are they necessary? Thanks-
 
They're not just hotter, the cup is harder and, yes, that matters. The regular SR are really soft. Personally, I've seen no difference between the Mag SR and the 5.56M SR.

Some ball powders benefit from a "hotter", or "mag" primer, but it isn't an absolute necessity, and it has nothing to do with caliber until you get to the great big cases of slow burning stuff, which can really benefit.
