Thanks everyone for the wealth of information here! I got a Pietta 1860 revolver a couple weeks ago, then found out I can't buy caps. So making caps seems like a great idea as well as my only option... I ordered the cap maker and prime all on Friday, and to my surprise it was shipped Monday and tracking says I will get it Friday. So only a week waiting time total. I did manage to get a tin of #10 CCI caps from a guy at the range, too small to even start my Slix-Shot nipples and a super tight fit with my stock nipples. But I can force them on the stock nipples with a wood dowel, so I can at least shoot it. Better then just hanging the pistol on the wall! I picked up a tube of the Green Duco cement today. I'll experiment with the Duco mixed in acetone for the binder. Thanks again!

Well this post is a wealth of information for a newbie black powder shooter. Like the poster above ^^^ I just recently bought a 1851 Navy 36 caliber revolver and I can not find caps anywhere. I have just ordered the cap maker for #10 caps and hoping that it will be here soon. I have some aluminum material already from making 22 caliber gas checks so I plan on using it first, if it does not work, well the soda cans will be next. I ordered one Prime All kit to try it as well, but also I am interested in the roll cap method. Once everything gets here I will give it a try. I have black powder, but no caps so this will be a learning experience for hard times ahead. Once Wally World gets in their CCI caps I may be able to pick up some, but this idea is great for hard times. Making your own is the way to go for the future as far as I am concerned. Flint locks are great for rifles but I like cap and ball revolvers as well, so this is going to be a learning experience. Great way to pass time for stress relief making caps from scratch! Thanks guys for your great information.
