Thirty five years ago the Sheriff asked me why I wanted one.

I replied that I was tired of carring illegally and have had a permit every since then.

1999 I think, but I've NEVER used it because it isn't for my state. I actually let it lapse. I need to go ahead and spend the time and money to get FL/NV/UT which I think will let me carry almost everywhere in the US, except not in my state.

Got my CA CCW (no, I'm not rich or famous, just live in the right part of the state), in October of 2003. Just renewed for another 2 years.
Got my Utah non-res in November of 2005.

10 and a half years. In VA before 95 when they changed the law you could get a permit at 18. My ex wife had one. She could not buy one from the store or ammo but she had a CCW permit. She even could carry in to bars and resturants that served. The guy from MA might be the same way.

Getting ready to plunk down the cash and get my Washington State permit.

You ought to get Utah instead. Can be done remotely and gets you way more reciprocity than Washington. My sister and brother in law live in TX and are getting their UT permits so they can have TX and WA carry. They aren't even going to bother with TX permits.

Had I known this, I wouldn't have bothered with my WA permit either

Don't rightly know for sure, but it was just after I got back from the Korean war and became a civilian again. So it's probably been 50 ys plus some now. I live in So. Calif and the laws have changed over the years regarding valid reasons but the Sheriff keeps renewing mine each time (2yr renewals now, used to be each year) . I've put holes in two bad guys over the years, both illegals, who made the mistake of bringing a knife to a gun fight. My usual carry gun is a custom S&W Model 25-2 , 2 1/2 inch, round butt, made for me by Jon Jovino back in the 60s.
