How many different cartridges in one caliber?

Not counting .22’s (s, l, LR) I own more .30 caliber stuff than 6, 6.5, 7 and 8mm rounds and only one .510”

Although I understand the affinity for .30 cals (a Model 7 in .308 was my go-to hunting rifle for years), I no longer own any .30s. Never liked the .30-30, so it was the first to go. Found I rarely shot the .30-06s once I settled on .308, so they went next. Traded my long-distance .308 for a .260 Remington; since it was primarily for targets rather than hunting, I liked the better ballistics and lower recoil of the .260. Finally, my last .308 was replaced by the same rifle in .7mm-08.

I certainly don't need five different 7mm cartridges. I've been thinking about downsizing as I get nearer to retirement (still years away) but just can't decide which to let go. I have two 7 SAUMs at the moment, so will probably start with one of those ... even though it won't reduce the number of cartridges.

I'm a relative lightweight but in my safe it would be 30 caliber for rifles. 300 Savage, 30-30 Winchester, 30-06 and 300 Weatherby.

Let me put it this way, there is one particular plinking bullet that I buy in bulk that at least theoretically can be loaded and shot from a slew of cartridges: Berry's .311" 123 gr. plated spitzer. I can use these unsized in 7.62x39, 7.52x54R and .303 British, or resized to .309" (In a Lee bullet sizing die) for a bunch of others.

I load this bullet to around 1800 FPS for shooting to 100 yards or so. Cheap, goes bang, doesn't foul, usually hits. Here's my list of cartridges (10) for this bullet and the number of rifles (17) in each chambering:

7.62x54R 1
3057 (wildcat) 2
308 Win 3
7.5 French 1
303 Brit 2
300 AAC 2
7.62x39 1
303 Savage 1
30-06 2
7.5 Swiss 2

I’ve culled down quite a bit to simplify my life and clear out space, but I have owned what likely consists of “too many” cartridges.

I haven’t ever taken time to tally in which caliber I have had the most cartridges, my mind initially goes to 22cal, but I have had a lot of 30’s and a lot of 6 & 7mm’s too... so off of the top of my head, in the last ~25yrs I’ve had:

22 Cal’s
218 Bee
221 Fireball
22 Hornet
5.7x28mm
222 Rem
223 Rem
224 Valkyrie
22-250
220 Swift

6mm’s
6BR
243 LBC
6 Dasher
6XC
6 Creedmoor
243win
243 win AI

7mm’s
7 BR
7-30 Waters
7x57
7x57 AI
7-08
7-08AI
284 win
284 Shehane
280 Rem
7 WSM
7 RSAUM
7 RM

30’s
30 carbine
300 whisper
300 Blackout
x39
30-30
300 Savage
308
x54R
30-06
300 WSM
300wm
300 RUM
300wby

I have had multiple 17’s and 20’s, 25’s, 6.8/277’s, 33’s, 416’s and 45’s, but only two, three, or four of each - certainly not the scale I have had in 22, 6, 7, and 30’s.

Sorry to go OT, but I need to stress just how jealous of @Slamfire I am. When Comrade Bernie comes to power, I am going to have him redistribute your collection to me, starting with:

So I'm curious. What's the largest number of different cartridges you shoot in a single caliber?

For me, the caliber is .284/7mm, and the number of cartridges is five:
  • 7x57 Mauser
  • 7mm-08 Remington
  • 7mm RSAUM
  • .280 Ackley Improved
  • 7mm Rem Mag
Yes, a lot of overlap here, but I like them all. My least favorite is the 7mm Rem Mag, but I inherited the rifle from my FIL, so it has sentimental value.
Just curious is the 7mm Rem Mag your least favorite because of the cartridge or the rifle that you have it in?

Not a fan of the belt to begin with. I actually like the rifle: an early Remington 700 ADL, but it needs work. The barrel isn't floated and I can't seem to get better than 2MOA out of it thus far. Summer project will be to float the barrel and bed the action. As it sits, it's the least accurate rifle of the bunch.

Free floating the barrel and glass bedding the action will make a world of difference.
I don't care for the unnecessary belt either.
