When I was a teenager (15), I owned

1. One firearm (a 12 gauge shotgun)
2. Air rifles
3. Throwing stars (you know, like a Ninja uses :) )
4. Nunchuks (sp?)
5. A Blowgun and darts
6. A slingshot
7. A bow and arrow
8. A whip
9. Many knives (like 12-15; folders, hunters, butterfly)

Now, as an adult (34 yrs), all I have is

1. Firearms (several)
2. Airguns (both rifle and pistol)
3. Several knives (maybe 6; folders, 2 auto folders, 1 neck, no hunters or butterfly)
4. A collapsable baton (asp)
5. Pepper spray

Numbers 3-8 from the top list I no longer have (though I *am* beginning to get the itch again for a bow, AND for a good crossbow, AND for a paintball gun).

Anyone here as an adult still keep various and sundry weapons like blowguns and throwing stars? Do you actually use them? Just curious.

Fess up - who has the jagged ring "impact weapon" on the front of their Surefire? :)

I have....

Slingshots, nunchaku, shuriken, butterfly knives, switchblades, an ASP, daggers, swords, mace (the kind you hit someone over the head with, not the spray:) ), flails, airguns, a speargun and a SuperSoaker.

Use some. Some hang on the wallks. Play with others.

Hrmmm...

Firearms (cartridge), firearms (black powder), an axe, a buncha swords, a skazillion knives (fixed and folding, manual and automatic and butterfly), an ASP, a kubotan, probably some stuff I'm forgetting... Are airsoft guns weapons?

1, Firearms
2, Airguns
3, knives
4, Compound Bows
5, and my favorite, a 5'4" half German half American Indian butt stompin machine called the Mrs.

As for weapons of mass destruction, I have 2 of those too. A teenage boy and a 9-year-old self proclaimed princess daughter.

HK, but *which* one of the off-the-wall-types do you actually fire/use/carry/regularly practice with, either for fun or work? I mean I know you probably don't carry that flail, but what about the other stuff?

Oh yeah, I also want a speargun, though I'm not sure why, since I'm landlocked - lol. Rupestris, that Mrs. and those 2 WMDs sound formidable - ha. Tam, I can see just see you at work with a sheathed sword on one hip and a K-frame on the other. :)

Oh yeah, I have an axe, but I condider that more of a camp tool than a weapon. Now if it was a smaller hatchet OTOH.....

I actually use the slingshots, ASP, butterfly knives (very painful to learn to use), airguns, speargun and SuperSoaker.

The medieval stuff is mainly for collecting/display.

For some reason there is a pirate's cutlass on my mantle. More knives than will fit in my butcher block. Every time I open a box/drawer seems like I find some once lost edged thingy.

Never had a thing for nunchucks but I do have an axe and a tomohawk.

Kinda want a spetznatz shovel.

:uhoh:

Kinda want a spetznatz shovel.
I got a spetznaz shovel in my SUV for an emergency shovel. :)
Almost all my knives are kept in one location. Got a kubaton in my pocket and an Assegai by the bed. Various other sharp or pokey things here and there.

I don't train on these things very often. I think that the kid on video practising Star Wars can whup me.

Tammy, Bearded Ave?

What the (#$%^&*) is a BEARDED AXE?
Having won a few with a simple ballpeen, is there something better?

Since I am a gypsy...my collection is small!!

But Handguns are first on the list...mostly 1911.45 auto's !!
Need to get a rifle for here...AK in midwest gunsafe! Maybe a SKS.
Blades: Simple stuff:
Camillus Cuda Maxx 5.5 as 'back up'
Camillus Commemerative KaBar(bought the day I got out of the Marines)
The ever-handy Swiss Army Knife
A 12 inch machete in the trunk of the car...a most useful survival tool!
ASP baton, 21 inch Light weight..on-board removable Taclight
Minimaglite(kubotan/yawara/light)
Cane, Jo(4 ft staff from Aikido days)
Pepperspray
Manrikigusari/kasarifundo(sp?) A 2 ft thin chain with steel weights on ends. A souvineer from six months in Japan. A most challenging device to master(knocked myself out with it one time!!), but fits in your hand, in a pocket, etc. COMPLEX motor skills required. But it has more reach than a knife, never jams, runs out of ammo nor makes any noise. Good grappling tool. Interesting weapon developed by a Samari(name means The strength of 10,000 men) and used by Ninja. Much practise required!
Never bought a sword....cause I cut myself playing with knives too many times! With a sword, I might lop something very valuable to me OFF!! LOL
I had a Webley Tempest airpistol for years, but left it with a gunless friend in NYC. Been thinking about buying another for indoors plinking pleasure/practise. Death to Phone books!
Played with the Wristrockets slingshots...but could not hit...squat!
Haven't touched a bow or cross bow in over a decade...but they can be useful. They just take up alot of room for the travelin' man/gypsy guru!
No throwing stars...rather chuck lead!
No nunchucku....played with 'em, but......bulky, single purpose tools.
No Spetnaz shovel..yet! A most handy truck/trunk tool.

The only non-firearm weapon that I have any proficiency with is an ash bokken. These "walking sticks" were my constant companions until replaced with a more easily concealed (but fifty times as expensive) Beretta.

I believe I'm on my tenth bokken. The others were destroyed in training.

I'm sorry this is off-topic, but "machete" made me smile. I forgot I had one until I read this post.

Back around 1976 we took a "family vacation" to El Salvador. Nice trip. The guerillas blew up part of the big mall while we were there, and a drunk military guy threatened, quite seriously, to kill me (complete with finger to my head and "boom" sound) when I didn't let him take the waitresses' tip from my table. It got worse when he snapped his fingers and four shadowy types immediately appeared from nowhere saying "Si, Capitan" or something like that. The last two nights I piled bottles and coins behind the hotel door, and put shoes and clothes on the balcony so I could jump off of it and run in the middle of the night. We met a British diplomatic couple who explained that "one just doesn't go to" 98% of the country. Weird memories.

I'd kinda forgotten about that trip. But, back on point, I got a machete in El Salvador. There were two choices, and I got the fancy, shiny one that probably isn't worth crap. Now I'm inspired to go find it. Oh yeah, I've got some other stuff, too.

Just one kind, the one between my ears. Everything else is just a tool to help get the job done. Plenty of assorted tools laying around everywhere.

It may be especially helpful to think of weapon types.

Flexibles,
Sticks,
Blades,
Projectiles.

The kusarifundo is a great weapon (you really have to learn to move your body to use it, though), and once you can use it, you know how to use any flexible in the same size range. You can't hit with a tie, for instance, but you can still use it to trap and subdue. One can also easily improvise a similar tool with nothing more than some heavy nuts and 550 cord, or use a heavy belt, or a thin chain and a lock...

1. Firearms.
2. Knives
3. Airguns.
4. katana (real, old, and immaculate)
5. slings
6. bos (staves...six and three feet)
7. bokkens
8. kusarifundo
9. jutte
10. compound bow
11. spear
12. wristrockets
13. 19th century sword cane

Byron also likes to keep small martial artists handy, to throw at intruders.

"I'll see your knife, and raise you...a ninja!"
