How many of you carry your gun in full capacity?

When my autos have problems, it's usually because of the magazine. Maybe the magazine is too new and when fully loaded, the tension is too great and the magazine won't load the next round. Or maybe I stored my defensive ammo in the mag for too long and now the spring is too weak. So and so, I hope you guys know what I am saying... so anyways, because of common magazine issues, I usually don't load the magazine to full capacity. Maybe I leave out 1 round or 2. Are there anyone out there that does this?? Are there proper magazine maintenance that I didn't follow?

Never had the problem you mention, I load to full capacity +1 all the time for every situation. Maybe you're just too gentle with your mags? I notice alot of people handle their guns to gently and cause a many a malfunction that way.

Carry them full. Its the action of compressing and decomprssing the spring that wears it out not being compressed. There have been full magazines found from WWII that have worked fine.

What type of gun is it and what brand magazine? I'd try a new factory magazine or two and if that doesn't help have it checked out by a gunsmith. It shouldn't have those problems.

I only have a couple of bottom feeders, but I fill the mag to capacity and then chamber the top round - I never bother to top off the magazine because it's really hard to re-seat the full mag on a closed slide, and I just see it as an unnecessary extra step. It shouldn't cause problems with the gun though - and it seems like some of mine will have that issue if the mag spring is installed backward.

It's certainly not unheard of, a buddy who's a former Marine says they always downloaded their M16s by a couple of rounds for that reason.

I always load my defensive gun magazines to full capacity. The only time I don't load a magazine to full capacity is on the range when my thumbs are tired.:)

I have full confidence in that statement, but sometimes it makes me ponder: how long have people been saying this? I know I've heard it for at least 10 years now - to the point I'd be likely to repeat it. I wonder how long after WW2 these loaded mags were supposedly found that worked fine. It could be that someone picked them up 10-20 years later and we're still repeating the story 70 years later as if it were still recent. :D

Just a thought that crossed my mind :).

On the original question, I carry full mag + 1 in all my guns. The only mag that has ever given me trouble were some after-market ProMag magazines for my Ruger P95. Every factory and Mec-Gar mag I've used on any of my guns has worked fine full.

Full +1. Even if there is some rare fault because of 1 additional round, when you tap/rack/bang, you're back to where you would be if you didn't load the additional. Having said that, if your gun/mags, or whatever have a problem you can't solve any other way, feel free to down-load as you see fit. Personally, I'd rather get the situation fixed and have the addl. firepower.
I don't use the pinky rest mag in my PPS if I'm carrying on my ankle, but will if it's under a shirt. That last round may just be the one that does the trick. It'd suck to not have it available.

The story was in a gun mag in the mid 90's.

I never underload Glock mags for carry. Of all the magazines out there, Glocks are the best.

Now old military guns like the P-35 High Power yea, do a -1. But I can say such as Sigs, Glocks, S&W MP simi-autos, Ruger P85/94/95s go ahead and load them to the max.

I love how freakin' irrational all this glock hatred is. I know they're not perfect, but man. A little bit of the logic brain engaging might be nice.

That being said of course, I carry them +1 when I feel like popping the mag back out and dealing with all that, but I feel just fine with either 10 or 15 minus the +1. More a matter of convenience, I guess.

maintain your weapon system, and all of it's anclinary equipment, and you will not have issues. If you continue to have issues, maybe you should find something that works better. I carry to full capacity of the magazine +1 in the chamber IMHO that is the only way to carry.

Glocks always -1, don't trust the plastic long term.

You mean the plastic floorplate that is becoming more and more prevalent for many manufacturers? Or the plastic wrapped around the metal liner on the mag body? Or the plastic follower that everyone uses? I must be confused...

I always load properly designed and manufactured magazines full (plus one in the chamber), and keep them that way all the time, and have never had any issues. I'm well aware that people have had issues with full magazines, so I guess some magazines or entire weapon systems are not properly designed.

I keep my revolver fully loaded, I'm not trying to play Russian Roulette with a BG ;)

I keep 10+1 in my 12 rd mag in my only auto
