How many of you have bought rifles w/o telling your wife...?

The wife and I make joint decisions on all large/important purchases. Guns being one of those. If I didn't tell or ask her she would see them eventually. We go to the range and learn and practice on the guns. It would be hard to hide a new one from her.

Since we've been together 32 years we've always shared the money. There is no his/hers it's both. Being honest with her has worked well for me.

Kilgor,

First of all I don't give a rat's gluteus maximus about your marriage advice. Secondly I did not hide the purchase from the wife, I walked right in the door with it and showed it to her.

That was 5 years ago, and we're still married. What can I say, she doesn't like me buying firearms. No matter how much money is in the bank.

Gun runnin

While I am not married, I have read P.F. McManus's books, including one of his columns on sneaking guns into the house around the wife.

One way is to take it apart and bring it in in pieces. Tell the wife that you found the random bits in the bargan bin at Bob's Guns. Mind you, not knowing how to put the thing together again can lead to left over parts, and the gun not making that odd sorta clicking sound anymore:D

Then there is the loaner method. Give the gun to a friend and have him bring it over thanking you for the loan. DO NOT use this method during the fall or you may not have the gun come to the house until the end of the season!

Lastly, storage. after the first few, the missus wont know the difference betwixt'em, BUT she will count the empty spots in the cabinet. Solution: sliding/expanding gun cabinet. simply keep expanding to maintain constant empty slots.

and so on, cracked me up just thinkin about it.

My wife and I maintain separate funds. She buys what she wants and I do likewise. Never a question or argument and no secrets.

I tried telling my wife that the 50 lb Pelican case that the Barrett came in was a airline golf club case but that didn't fly.

Not really, we run all major purchases passed each other and as long as she can be a "stay at home mom" all is good.

Duh. Yea. :)

Pretty much the same. Ours, hers, and mine. Hers and mine are spending money, for whatever.

Actual conversation at my house
Wife: "Just how many guns do you have?"

Husband: "Uh. . ."

Wife: "I don't want to know, do I?"

Husband: "No you don't."

Yes, brother, most of us know exactly how that works. One of my favorite games is to really make sure what you like and then get more of 'em in different calibers. Take them out one at a time. Works with handguns, too. :scrutiny: Does YOUR wife recognize the difference between your 629 and your 625? Or Glock 17 and your Glock 35? I know there are guys in this forum that can't do that. :D

Just like Clark Kent and Superman - they just can't both be seen at the same time in the same place.
