How many of you only buy/sell FTF?

Wanted to see how many see how many of us gunnies are as fed up with FFL's as I am. Not to turn this into another "I Hate FFL" or "FFL's are Not Our Friends" rant, but the situation here is central Florida has gotten so bad with outrageous FFL charges, FFL's flat out refusing to do any transfers, FFL's give us the third degree, and FFL's not transferring anything that they can order I have found myself now only willing to buy guns that I can buy FTF.

This severly limits me. How many brotherin do the same?

An FFL holder has nothing to do with how I feel about buying or selling guns. I do not like to sell any of my guns out of state and prefer FTF transactions. Buying guns is a different story. FTF transactions are good but I don't mind looking around on the net to find a good deal on a particular firearm when I want one.

I have a great FFL! He is very prompt at sending his FFL out when I buy a gun out of state and calling me when it comes in. He only charges $20 for a transfer even if it is multiple guns as long as they are on the same 4473. He is also a great gunsmith and has done work for me several times.

I still buy though FFL's. It is not an unbearable process yet... It is hard enough to find exactly what you want from a dealer let alone find it used.

There are some nice deals to be had FTF and it is always nice to meet people who share your interest. No tax or shipping is is also a plus.

I still buy from dealers but, all things considered, I prefer to buy FTF.
I just love it when I can do my part to end the paper trail on a gun.

I'd like to buy FTF but it just seems that a disporportionate number of the sellers here on THR are "DFW" or greater Texas residents. Minnesotans must hang onto their weapons more 'cause I rarely see them for sale.

I prefer to! I'm selling a pistol today to a THR forumite. It'll be nice. I'll sell him my pistol for $150 more than I could get selling it to an FFL and he'll get it for ~$75 less than he could get it from an FFL.

And I hardly even have to leave the couch.

Isnt that the truth! I live in Tennessee and it is weird how many people are selling guns near DFW and how few are selling them in Tennessee. I have resigned myself to the fact that I will not own certain firearms for a long time if ever because I am only willing to do a FTF deal. For instance, I REALLY want an RRA AR-10, but it aint gonna happen with a FTF deal in TN anytime soon. I think it does make you appreciate some things more though (like my Daewoo K1A1)

I voted FTF only, but I will buy from a dealer, in the store. I don't feel like dealing with the whole shipping firearms process. I don't understand it, and see no reason to.
BTW, cheap shameless plug: I'm trying to sell my Taurus PT-111 MilPro in the Trading Post section right now. Prefer a tit-for-tat trade on a Walther P22 or Sig Mosquito, but $250 cash will do as well. and of course, FTF only in the Little Rock, AR area.

My FFL is great, and his fees are cheap. He's a really nice guy, and we have some great conversations whenever I go pick up a gun from him. Most of the guns I own were online purchases that went through him. I have no regrets except having to fill out the paperwork for the federal government. I'm totally against registration of sales of any kind.

I have a difficult time swallowing the line about the info from the 4473 not being entered into a database when the call for approval is made. Can't believe some bureaucrat with far too much time on his hands is recording all this for future use. I know, it's time for the tinfoil hats!

they don't have to enter it into a db. they know the mfg and the mfg knows the distributor, and the distributor knows the retailer, and the retailer knows you.

It's kind of hard not to buy face-to-face, whether or not you go through an FFL during the process.

Now, if you were to ask about private transactions vs. FFL-supported...

And while I sort of understand folks refering to the current system as a "registration" thing, I think that's overstating the case. Sure, all the data is available, but only if someone's willing to dig through tons of paper and follow a trail from manufacturer to POS. It's possible, but also kind of tedious.

As far as the government or anyone else is concerned, I own two guns...a shotgun and a rifle. I'm a good little citizen who only owns guns the government has deemed suitable for 'sporting purposes' for our own good.

What I do on my own is my own business as far as I'm concerned, and I make sure I do follow the law however much I disagree with it.
