Newbie here with a newbie question. How many rounds do you typically shot at a range visit. I just got a new Sigma 9mm and shot 100 rounds at the range. Do you normally shot 200, 250, 300...?

It depends. When I used to rent and had to pay $30 for 50 rounds at the range, I would only shoot one box and leave. Now that I have my own handgun and can get 100 rounds of .45 for $29, I usually shoot 100 rounds at a minimum and last time I shot over 200.

It depends on what I'm shooting. If I'm trying to milk the best range and accuracy out of my Mosin Nagant, I tend to spend more time tweaking things than I do shooting and I'll probably only make it through 50-100.

If I'm out with my Ruger Mark II then I'll easily go through 500+

With my other standard handguns I usually go through about 200-500.

Double or triple those numbers if I'm out with friends and/or family.

With a typical large caliber handgun, try not to shoot more than 200-300 rounds in a session. Beyond that fatigue begins to set in, your technique starts to get sloppy, and you begin reinforcing bad habits, which will ultimately show up in your targets and frustrate you. I know, it's fun, and you may not think you're getting tired, but you are... especially if you're new to shooting.

It depends how much I can afford at the time!

However I don't like to shoot more than 200 rounds. After that I start to get sloppy.

I would shoot about 100 rounds of WWB at a time when I first got my sigma 9mm. Now I reload and don't feel satisfied unless I have gone thru 150 rounds at least. Sometimes I go 250 if I don't get chased out of my shooting spot by idiots. How do you like your sigma by the way?

I like it., had no problems with the 100rds of wwb. It shoots a little right(consistently) and I didnot have anything to tap the rear sight. This will be corrected on the next trip.

Mine shot to the left consistently when I first got it. I would use the rear sights, but I've started just concentrating on the front sight and it shoots straight now, so I think it was me. I really almost ignore the rear sights when I'm shooting now, and it has made me more accurate and allows for faster follow up shots...but I have had no formal training so I don't know if that is a "correct" way to shoot. It definetely works for me though, you might give it a try. The sigma gets a really bad rep, but I love mine. I like it better than my Sig P6, which many would consider pure blasphemy. I got used to the trigger pull somewhere between 300-500 rounds, and it shoots tighter groups than the P6 with a single action trigger. One of these days I'll post pics for the nay sayers!

I usually take 2 or 3 pistols at a time to the range, and shoot about 50 through each. Same with rifles, but 20 to 30 each. Only exception is for .22LR. I usually take 200 rounds for those.

With my Ruger Mark III Hunter, I normally shoot 500-800 rounds which is easy when you have the Ultimate Clip Loader and about 10 magazines with you:D.

50-200 typically (centerfire handgun - not counting .22lr), but I've done more.

an assortment of about 40 pounds worth of ammo
usually lasts about 4 hours in 4+ handguns most having conversion barrels or slides.
nicer weather adds a few rifles and another 10 or so pounds of ammo.

I've found that I don't like loading mags while I'm out shooting anymore. So I usually take 6 or 8 mags for whatever gun, and when they're empty, I switch to another. I rarely load any while I'm there. I'd rather shoot.

I load my mags up while watching TV or whatever.

The exception is the Ruger LCP; I only have 3 mags and they only hold 6 apiece. So I do load those up but it's pretty painless.

Are You just plinking, or practicing defensive shooting?
I love going to the range and just smelling the Gunpowder, so 300-400 rounds.

About once a month an old buddy of mine and his wife go do defensive shooting. It;s a little game we call surprise.

Whoever's up to shoot, turns away from portable targets, as they're moved around. You're started when told, and turn to engage Approx. 3 targets.

This kind of practice is similar to Hogans alley, and can really be an effective training aid. This way you will get a lot more effective practice, with a lot less cost.

This kind of practice, I usually go through 80 to 100 rounds each outing.

P.S. It' a blast, pardon the pun.

Usually like 50 or 100 of .40

100 or 200 of 9mm

and 200 to 500 of .22lr

depending on the trip, sometimes I'll through in 15 to 40 rifle shots, various calibers. and some 460

depends on the venue. steel match, up to 300. ipsc match, up to 220. pin match, up to 150. steel race night, depends on hot good i do, lol. maybe up to 150. indoor ipsc match, up to 80.

just the range and testing something for a minute, maybe five. lol.

I just use a pice of wood that saves my thumb when loading my 2 MKII mags.
