How many whitetails can you take where you live?

My last time up north there in Illinois.. Bow season was all the deer you want.
Firearms(shotgun, revolver) If you had been picked in a county lottrey 4. Otherwise 2. From what I have heard the same this year.
Bow hunters get 3.5 months to eliminate corn crunchers... Gunners get about 10 days.
I pull recurves and enjoy lots of bush time when up north.

Six per tag of which two maybe antlered or all six maybe antlerless I no longer hunt but keep current on the regulations. We let hunters on the property to manage the influx of deer.

Like the OP, here in TN I suppose I could shoot quite a few legally if I went to the trouble with the different regions, seasons, and allowable shooting methods. I'm not interested in more than one no matter how many I am allowed to shoot. I have to "try to" eat one a year. I give away most of the meat anyway after it is froze. Venison is not my favorite.

No more than three antlered in Virginia. In addition, in Northern Virginia (or in Virginia's urban zones) we have an "earn a buck". Basically, in order to take your second antlered deer you need to take a doe. To take the third antlered deer, you need to take two more does.

Oh, and in the counties around DC, there's no limit on the number of deer you can take (though you need to buy new tags - bonus deer tags - or get Depredation permits to do so) after the initial 6 are killed. But those are easy to get.

The zone I am hunting this year allows 5 deer, only one can be a buck.

There are some zones in the SE part of the state where chronic wasting disease was discovered, they can shoot a whole bunch.

Correct. West of the Blue Ridge Mountains, we only get two bucks but still get three antlerless and can still get bonus deer permits. It's not a big deal to me, I'm not trying to put antlers on the table.

Actually the bonus permits in Virginia allow a hunter an additional 6 antlerless deer and you can purchase as many as you want. In addition, these permits are also available to non-residents.

California is brutal - our blacktail season is before the rut so we get to hunt in August and 100 degree heat. Max is two tags a year, almost entirely bucks (very few antler less tags available). Hunter success rate is something like 30% per year overall, with virtually all of that on private land.

I've been lucky to fill both of my tags each of the last two years. Got a nice buck the first weekend this year and have a late season tag remaining.

here in the great state of South Carolina, I can shoot

2 bucks a day and 1 doe a day on either sex days without a tag, unlimited purchase of doe tags and no total season limit on bucks and..

4 month GUN season, Sep 1 to Jan 1

I only hunt with a rifle and sometimes a dreaded slug gun so I don't know about bow and muzzle loaders regs. This year I can take three deer altogether. Everyone who gets a big game license gets to take one buck and one black bear per season. There are A LOT of management units within the state which regulate doe permits in those units. Most of the northern zone management units don't usually give out to many doe permits. It changes yearly though. I got two doe permits in the southern zone this season. With the doe permits we can take a deer having no antlers or antlers less than 3" long.

In NY a big game hunting license will give you one buck and one black bear. You can get up to two doe (antlerless deer) permits by lottery. NY is divided up into 92 Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) and the doe permit is specific to a particular WMU. Doe permits are transferrable to another licensed hunter but only valid for the particular WMU for which they are issued.

Last year only drew one doe permit in my WMU. This year I was lucky and got two.

An interesting thing about our regs (and it may be like this everywhere) is they do not classify them as buck and doe, but as antlered and antlerless. So if you shoot a deer with antlers less than 4 inches it is considered antlerless and doesn't go against the antlered limit. This is good because it would be a bummer to think you were shooting a doe for meat and have a spike take up one of your buck tags.

My first was a button buck I thought was a doe, so with the whole antlerless thing luckily it didn't count against me.
When I lived in KY you got a buck and a doe tag, and could refill your doe tag as often as you wanted.
Here in VA it's a lot more complicated, 5 total deer and at least three have to be does, but county to county the rules and dates change.
In VT it was one deer per weapon (one archery, one rifle, one muzzleloader) during respective seasons, with only one buck allowed (or maybe it was one doe?)
I'm in my 5th state where I can hunt, and the rules change drastically with each state. KY was the one with the best limits, though.

Here in upstate NY - one buck tag per season. You have to apply for what are called DMP (Deer Management Permit) tags based on hunting zones by first and second choice. DMP tags can be used for any antler-less deer or on a deer with one antler 3" or less in length. Before the season opens you can get up to two DMP tags on your hunting license based on availability in your chosen zones. You can also have up to two tags transferred from another hunter. Just before the season opens, if there are tags available in your zone, you can apply for two more DMP tags.

So, we can only get one Buck with more than 1 antler, and up to 6 antler-less deer or deer with one antler that is 3" or less for a grand total of 7 max per hunter.

The regular season (other than bow and muzzleloader) is short too - this sucks!

Some of ya'll can take a lot of meat! KY Zone II, 1 buck and 2 does, I think 2 extra does with a bow, and you can buy a bonus for 2 extra does during modern gun. Archers get from Sept to Jan, Blackpowder gets a weedend in OCT, (Day after tomorrow!!) and a week in Dec before Christmas. Modern Gun gets three weeks in NOV up to and after thanksgiving.

I saw one poster said takes work to eat one deer in a year. We have a fellow from the U.P. in Michigan who moved here and goes to my church. He taught my buddies and I to corn venison, and make our own summer sausage, among a bunch of other tricks. My family now finishes up the last of our three deer a year around the fourth of July.

Was 5 but it got bumped up to 6 this year. Limit of 2 bucks, but all 6 can be does.

Texas Parks & Wildlife regulations list a maximum of 5 deer. Up to 3 bucks are allowed, but MOST counties are limited to one or two bucks, but you can get one buck in 3 different counties if you'd like. The remaining tags are doe tags, but you could skip the bucks and take 5 does if you want.

This year, I'd rather take 5 bucks simply because they are the only ones in good shape. After 2 weeks of bow season, I've seen one doe in good enough shape to put in the freezer.

Here in OK we are allowed a total of 6 deer. 4 does and two bucks but only a max of three per season either archery, muzzle loader or gun. Also you can only get 1 buck in each season and the second doe per season has to come from one of three zones 2, 7, 8.

Now a hunter could get a 7th deer for the year if they put in for the holiday antler-less season. AS the holiday season does not count towards your yearly total.
