How much brass do you keep on hand for recreational shooting?

About 3 5gallon buckets of 45 ACP, about the same in 40 and 9mm. Double that for .223. A 55 gallon plastic drum 3/4 full of 308 and a plastic drum about half full of 30-06. Less common calibers (38 spec,44 mag,270, 338 win ect ) a couple coffee cans of each.

Unless my brother comes over and mooches.

I have 22-5 gallon buckets of brass in my basement right now. Wow! That's 110 gallons!!!!!

.308 = about 300 once fired Remington and Winchester. I don't like military brass, PIA to prep.

.223 = 1000 once fired Remington off of gunbroker, for $100.:)

40 S&W = about 1500 peices, from factory ammo I have shot, plus a few bags at gun show's, dirt cheap.

38 spl = about 300 cases

.357 mag = about 500 cases.

I spend most of my time on .308, .223, and 40 S&W. I've got a sufficient brass supply for these.

I just started reloading and I only have about 1.2k 9mm brass and a few (25) of 45ACP which is a caliber I don't have a gun for. When I go to the range I come back with about twice the brass that I used and it's not always the same brass I shoot and I pick up any 45 ACP brass I find.

I keep all of my 9mm brass (re)primed and I plan to keep doing that as I accumulate many tens of thousands because I think primed brass (or at least having as many primers as brass but having them primed is added convenience) will give max value if the SHTF as compared to having a huge stash of only brass or only primers.

I'm still scrambling to accumulate 'enough' 9mm 'range pickups'. I want to triple+ what I have now.

I've recycled the first two headstamps at least twice-some 3 times in the last 10 mos.

Ready-to-load:
3k Win
1K PPU
3k R&P
2k FC
1K assorted other

Not enough here. Plenty, but still....it's not enough. Is it ever enough? I don't think so. I'd keep it by the container load if I had the space.

I'd have the longest arms at the range and surreptitously put my hands in my pockets and reach to my ankles for the stealth grabs while all you are shooting. ;)

Ask any 10mm guys, they know. I get excited when I find another of my range tossings when I go to the local public range.

Sig, may I recommend professional help?? you might just have a problem.

I think that really depends on how much you shoot. When I started with the big bore stuff, I ordered 1k each of .44 mag and .45 colt. But with time, and gun shows, and forum sale boards I'll buy it whenever it's cheap. But It's a whole lot easier to keep revo brass than semi auto brass. 500-1k in .45colt will go a long way when loading 8.5gr of Unique and 255 grainers.

4,000 - .223
2,000 - .308
3,000 - .45 ACP
5,000 - 9mm
4,000 - .38 special
Smaller amounts for guns used for hunting - usually 2-300

Don't know exact numbers, several thousand for each cartridge I shoot. I've still got several FRBs in my warehouse that have been sitting for years, no hurry.

Well since I've been labeled as a "Brass Whore" I've got bags and bags and bags of brass.
I load it all up and shoot my way through it and do it again - LOL!!!

Anyone notice that most of the posts here have the two most unimportant word in the English language prominently displayed in it, some posts have them many times. "I" & "I've"

Boxes, cans, buckets? Get real, serious shooters keep'em by the BARRELS !

From a practical point, brass tends to be a lot less expensive when purchased by the 1000 lot. It doesn't go bad, so why not buy bulk and save?

At present around a couple dozen 5 gal buckets in various calibers. Rifle a min of 10K of each common one. Pistol brass 25K of each common one. 300WSM, 500S&W MAG, 444Marlin etc 5K each. This is unloaded brass only. Almost as much loaded and would have more but the primers.......:cuss:
