How much do you normally spend on a new gun?

Figuring you get say a $500 gun, what accessories do you add on? Holster(s), how many extra mags/speedloaders, cases, sights, grips, gunsmithing (trigger work etc)
Would that new gun end up costing $600, $700, $800? after accessories? That's why I hate the 10 day wait. IT's usually the time I buy accessories I think I might use:banghead:

Most of mine were in the $1000 range to start with, and had some custom features from the factory. I'd much rather pay for a Performance Center or Colt Custom Shop unit than add all the options on a more generic model.

Don't let the dollars fool you, Saxon has a "Very Nice" collection that would be the envy of any enthusist.

I've bought a pistol before and spent double what I paid for it on custom parts and labor! I guess I'm just not a fan of 'stock' guns, whether its something minor as replacing the grips, something's gotta go!

You know, I'm thinking now should feed the ones I have rather than buy new ones to support. Of my guns, most have a holster, spare ammo, no semi has less than 5 mags w/ several at 10, a couple have had trigger work done, my revo's have aftermarket grips, I've scoped a couple, even my shotguns been worked on/ modified.
I think I'll try and stay low for a while unless HK intros some long guns into CA this year :banghead:

I budget in $300 for extra magazines and holsters.
Another $200 on top of that if I feel like sending it off to a reputable smith (shipping is $60 both ways), for new sights and a slick trigger job.

Somewhere between $500 and $1000 for the gun itself. Usually it's closer to $1000, which is why I don't have that many.

I'll spend what it takes if it's a gun I really want; part of "what it takes," however, is the assumption that whatever I spend to buy the gun, I'll probably spend at least as much on gunsmithing—unless I can do it myself—stocking, refinishing, et cetera.

But then ... let's look at makes.

I bought a new Blackhawk last year ... under $400 IIRC .. a new Taurus .357 (M66) which I think was not too much over $300 ...... and yet .... if I was after a Kimber or similar . I guess budget has to go way over the Grand! So . If Ruger, Taurus etc .... not too painful. On other hand .. just recently paid $400 for used but minty Mod 27 Smith (5"!) ....... and with rifles .... well, another ball game!

So .... ''normally'' spend?? ....... that's a hard one . if it's wanted bad enough, then I guess ''what it takes''

Well, I figure if I don't need to do much to the inner workings of the gun (like a trigger job or something), then I suppose the total is around $300 additional for a semi-. Less that $150 for a wheelgun.

New grips (usually), extra magazines (5-7), maybe different sights, extra pistol bag, and another brush or something if I haven't had that caliber gun yet.

But then again, I'm cheap. At least for now.

I don't rule out anything because it is too cheap or too expensive. It just takes me longer to save for it.

I typically don't buy ANYTHING extra with a new gun. I love the long, slow process of figuring out exactly what I want for it.

Been the other route and ended up with a bunch of stuff I didn't really want....

The only customizing I do is stuff that I actually can do myself. Examples of that is putting on custom grips, and changing the mainsprings with Wolf springs. I don't have gunsmiths customize guns for me, I'm just too cheap to spend the money some of them charge.


Being mostly a revolver man, I don't need to worry about buying a lot of new magazines. Although, I have in the past bought extra magazines for my pistols--and each one has at least 3.

I consider the firearm as a single expense,and a small one compared to what you spend in acccessories and ammo.my desert eagles cost me $1100 each and will probably be the only high priced firearms I will buy.I consider most pistols in the $400-$600 normally priced firearms as you can get just about any caliber by a decent manufacturer.I would rather have 3 cheaper pistols than 1 tricked out custom,although in my eyes nothing holds a candle to a de,even with its flaws.its the absolute most fun you can have at a shooting range.

I don't have a lot of surplus income to spend on a gun so I buy only guns that shoot well out of the box (no customizing), and try to keep accessories to a minimum. For a pistol I usually only buy a holster and two or three extra mags. Accessories can eat up a lot of money if you don't watch it and besides I would rather spend the money on ammo.

New gun, last time I bought new and on paper about $750, including 6 mags, ammo, holster...been awhile...and Big Brother...I no longer have it...

Since I stay with same platforms, calibers ...etc. I can get by cheaper since everything interchanges. Real Cheap when Barter and no paper involved...my preferred method Huh...where'd that one come from...

I usually have no set amount that i spend on average on any handgun..

As a guess, I'd have to say that I spend $250+ in extras on any given gun..

It's a good thing that I'm not into 1911's or I'd probably have to sell everything that I own just to feed the addiction..

My total budget for new hardware is $1500.00 /yr +/- $500.00 depending on the year I have had. A certain percentage of that goes to reloading, or bulk ammo, depending on how rich I am feeling. Spent the whole remaining wad last year buying and customizing my Springer Champion, some accessories for it, and some new reloading dies and stuff for .30-06. Range membership, classes, RKBA, are all a separate account.

This is the year of the CZ 85B. It's time for a new wondernine in my house and a .22 conversion. Probably buy a bunch of full caps, night sights, holster, Hakan grips, and hard chrome job. I am projecting $400.00 for the pistol, $75.00 for the grips, (I do not know what Hakan charges), $150 for Trijicons and installation, $200.00 for mags. $200.00 for Cobra chrome and shipping to and back from Tripp. $200.00 for Kadet conversion. That'll probably do it for this year so I can stay in ammo. If I have some spare change or a great year, maybe I'll pick up a CZ 75 BD or SA as well because they can use the same mags.

And to think I could have wasted the money on a Glock 20 and goodies, the leading choice until last Sunday.

My first 10mm will have to wait.:banghead:

If you like accessories you need to get into buying 1911's, the search for prefect Mag's, Sights, Holster's, Grips and to find them you have to buy one or three of each.

If I'd know about these Forum's three years ago mabe I woun't have 16 differenct mags just for the 1911's ( 6 Wilson, 4 Ed Brown, 5 Kimber/CMC and the one that came with my Hardballer AMT they all work except for the AMT)

the last several years I have been lucky as in purchasing used firearms with some of the gear included , and it worked out for some of the collection so I wouldn't have to buy new holsters ect for them , but this years when or should I say If I buy this new LDA 6-45 , I am going to be spending around $1000 total for the gun ,holster and extra mags to go with it , I ussually set aside about 200 for gun goodies with each purchase .

Well, it used to be just extra magazines, holster, mag carrier etc.
But since I had the Robar treatment on my Springfield, the bar has been raised a notch. Now I'm already thinking about sending the new SA Champion off for some Roguard
Also, the Ruger GP100 that I bought used, wouldn't it look great in the matte Roguard finish too? Yeah, that's the ticket.
I don't even want to start adding things up anymore, way too revealing

I have a real problem spending more than $600 for a handgun. I cried when I paid over $500 for my Glocks. I shouted halleliua when I bought my Ruger SP101 .38 for $239.

Hanguns are way overpriced. It is not the manufacturing cost, it is that liability thing. I mean think about it. I pay the same for a 9mm handgun as I could for a .223 autoloading rifle. Which weapon would create the most havoc? And I can get a pretty good shotgun for less than $300.

I would love a SIG P210, but not for $1200. Please. A sucker is born every minute, but I am no sucker.
