how much do you spend when you buy a new gun?

Does anyone go by an average estimated budget for each purchase, beyond the price of the pistol itself, or do the needs vary too much depending on what you're buying? I ordered a CZ52 to try something different at the range, and with a price of $110, I've spent more than twice that before receiving it-with only one box of ammo to boot. At such a low price point, multiplying the cost is easy, but it got me wondering about what the 'average' buyer spends, as I'm still new to this.

I averaged it out one time and it came to about $500 per gun. I readily admit that I am a shopper and have gotten some decent deals over the course of my gun purchases. The most I ever paid was a little over $600 for my Sig 229 in .40.

Mike - so many variables! Sometimes I need to factor in the first supply of ammo - and/or new dies and brass etc .. this pushes up the initial ''getting started'' costs.

Other times tho if a cal you have ... it's pretty much cost of gun only ... plus any t'fer fees etc.

At one end of the spectrum we have, like you ...... a CZ-52 . Great value but .. this benefits from a 16.5# spring ... and worth getting a spare firing pin too (do NOT dry fire .. the std cast pin can bust!). Go to http://www.makarov.com to see what goodies are available. Of course, you need ammo too.

The other end of spectrum is stuff like - for example ... my SRH in .454 .. by time I'd added Millet red dot ... and bought (taken out mortgage! :p ) .... some Hornady ammo ..... then dies too ... phew ... I musta been into about $900 or so.

Looking at average tho ... reckon $500 per purchase can often be very near the mark... handguns in particular. Even buying a Bulgy Mak, at what .. $149 let's say .... you may want extra mags, plus a new cal ammo so ... buy up some stock .. even that package can finish up near double.

All depends ... :)

I just paid $1460 for a new H&H P7M8. and I am thinking of a H&K Mark23 next just over $2000 but not sure if the USP tac 45 would be better for me, but I avarage around $700. It depends on what it is and how bad I want it, but I would say $3000 would be my max.

Lately it seems that most of my handguns are running between 1 and 2 grand per. The cheap ones have been the "deals" and the expensive ones have been the collectors, like my Registered Magnum and a first months 38/44 heavy duty. Those tend to get a bit pricey!

On another thread I commented to this in a point I was making.

I put in a guesstament of around $300.00 pre gun just for the accessories and add-ons we buy above and beyond the gun. I think that's a consevative figure too.

I too would guess around the $500.00 mark per gun for the gun itself on average. Maybe a little higher?

The most I have ever spent was $700, I usually do not go above $500 but it was for a SW1911 and I just had to have it.

The most I spent was $750, the least was $350. I buy mostly good quality guns like SIG's and S&W revolvers, but nothing outrageous or collectable.

With some gunsmithing, I guess you could say I have a couple guns worth around $1000. They shoot just as good as any gun worth double that, so I see no reason to spend more for anything engraved, unique or fancy.

I spend whatever it costs to get the gun I want to buy... sometimes that is $50.00 - my second Nylon 66 Remington... sometimes it is $1,200.00 - My first Desert Eagle, W/ factory shoulder holster, spare mags, and other accessories... it all depends on what I am buying!

I own 6 SIGs, 3 M1As some Springfield 1911s, S&Ws, Garand, etc. I never knew you could buy a gun for less than $600.:what:

A friend of mine commented that she believes pistols are cheaper than rifles, because rifles need to be set up with scopes, mounts, slings, etc but a pistol can be used right out of the box as is.

I pointed out that she owns no fewer than three holsters for every handgun in her safe.

If you factor in specialized sights, holsters, trigger work, spare magazines, ammo or reloading supplies, a handgun can sure cost a heckuva lot more than it cost.

I have no real average.

Lately I bought a couple $120 dollar Makarovs, $920 Kimbers and a $770 Bushmaster M4 (clone).

I don't buy a gun because it's cheap (but everyone likes a "good deal").
And I don't turn down a gun, I want, because it's too expensive.

For instance, for my use, a $1500 or $2000 45 would be no better than my $1000- Kimbers so I don't buy a $2000 pistol. At least I haven't yet. :)

Come to think of it I do sometimes buy guns because of the price but first the gun must be an outstanding piece of machinery.
I've got 11 Makarovs and looking to make it a even dozen because they are so darn cheap.:)
