How much does "impulse buying" factor in to your firearms purchases?

What was probably the closest I have ever been to an "impulse buy" was almost 45 years ago. I was a student at SIU-Carbondale, in a ground floor off-campus apartment. One night, at about 3 a.m., somebody was pounding heavily on my door. I answered by sticking the tip of my Ruger .22 pistol out the door as the "gorilla" pounding on my door was so drunk that he didn't realize that he was on the ground floor and the apartment he wanted was upstairs. He was about 6' and 275-300 lbs. and I had a chair behind the door to make it harder to kick open - JIC. The next time I was home from school, I traded that .22 pistol for a Astra .380, which I still own. I have regretted trading that Ruger for over 30 years but I didn't want to be caught with only a .22 pistol in a similar situation ever again.
The next closest was my desire for a Keltc PMR-30. The problem there was that it took almost 2 years before a LGS got one in stock. When they did however, I jumped on it.

Impulse buying is 0% of my gun purchasing now. About 8 years ago I was buying a gun almost every month. But there's less now that I feel I need and with the economy the way it is it would be moronic for me to buy guns on a whim.

Almost all of mine. The exception being my AR's that I've built. I got a really good deal on a Ruger American in .308 that I just don't shoot enough. $200.00 out the door. Including Nikon optic. Fun gun to shoot.

I don’t remember the last time I didn’t at least “sleep on it” in reference to a gun purchase. I guess the closest thing to an impulse buy that I’ve made recently was my Remington Model 7 in 308. I broke my own rule about buying from a big box store because they had this Kuiu Vias camo stocked Model 7 at clearance price. I fondled it and breathed pretty heavy on it that day. Didn’t really need it, but went home that night and decided if it was still there the next day I was gonna get it. It was still there, so I picked it up. Waited over an hour for a manager approval on that sale. I won’t break my rule again, but I’m glad I picked this little rifle up.
