How much does your duty belt weigh?

I am wondering how much stuff you carry and if any of it is "extra" equipment carried by department mandate.

Any weight you willingly carry is, of course, your burden to bear. ;)

My duty belt weighs 30lbs. I have a P220ST in a Uncle Mike's Pro3, two spare mags, Streamlight M3, Streamlight UltraStinger carried in a ASP plastic holder, two pairs of handcuffs, Taser in a skeleton holster and Motorola Astro radio. The radio weighs more than my gun and the Taser took the place of my pepperspray and Winchester baton.

I have very little on mine, as I don't need all that much. One OC in holder, (new brand, can't remember which one), cuffs in case, CPR mouthshield, radio holder, belt keepers including key keeper. When I leave the unit, I take that belt off, and hit the gun locker for my CZ75 P01 in Galco paddle rig, and the spare mag that goes into the UM Universal mag holder squashed under the duty belt all day....

Mine weighs about 12 pounds. The belt, holster and equipment cases are Uncle Mike's Sidekick Pro. I carry
G-22 w/ two spare mags, total of 46 rds of 180 gr Gold Dots
21" ASP
two pairs of cuffs one hinged, one chain
Pelican M-6 Black Knight
Mini-Mag light
Pepper spray
Glove pouch w/ two pairs of latex gloves
Carry ring for Streamlight SLX-20
Motorola HT-1250 radio
Micro cassette recorder.
Our body armor is worn in outer vest carriers with lots of pockets. Between the notebooks, pens, tide tables, pocket statute books (I carry two different ones) extra pepper spray, seal bombs, lighter, spare tape recorder, spare batteries, spare pr of latex gloves, knife and Sure-Fire light, my vest is about 8 lbs.

I should have stated I wear BDU pants at work, and things like my search gloves, memo book, referance cards, daily rosters, etc, end up in cargo pockets. We don't have to look pretty, so we have a great optional Class C uniform, polo shirt and BDUs.

Depending on the loadout, 10 - 15 lbs est. That varys on things like airweight vs steel baton, Surefire vs D-cell size light, Glock vs 1911, and so forth. Working in plainclothes is tougher due to belst size and the eed to conceal everything.

Regardless, it is enough that I have chronic lower back and hip problems.

As to use, presence has to count for something. I haven't shot anyone, but I've taken people at gunpoint, etc.....

I have some lower back pain myself, and I see some officers wearing suspenders to help manage their load.

Finding a minimum load that still gives you everything you might need is very difficult.

Thank you everyone for your responses so far.

Never weighed the belt seperately - but my whole uniform including vest used to weigh 42 lbs. Was used to it - I developed back pain after retiring for a few months, but that went away too and I grew a gut!

15-22 pounds depending what is on it on a given day. Always: sidearm, 2 extra mags, asp, surefire, 1 set of cuffs, cell, radio. May add (any/all) second set of cuffs, full size light, mic pack for camera, shotgun ammo.

Nylon is the way to go for duty belts

HK USP .45 full size, 2 spare mags, 4 oz OC, flashlight ring, Gerber multitool, rubber gloves, 20 rd AR mag, Motorola MT1000, 26" ASP collapsible baton, SureFire 6Z, 2 pr cuffs = 12 pounds.

Lower back problems were lowered when they authorized Bianchi Accumold duty gear. Nylon is so much lighter then leather and both Bianchi and Safariland make a leather look nylon if your agency is dead set against nylon for the way it looks.

Streamlight M3, Streamlight UltraStinger carried in a ASP plastic holder,

I'm glad to see so many of you carry more than one flashlight. I still get weird looks at work because I've got both a Surefire 9AN and an Inova XO on my belt. The 9AN is nice for a wall of light, but runs for less than an hour. The Inova takes over for long running duties as it's a focused LED light that runs for 4 hours and still puts out about 50 lumens.

I dunno what it weighed, but back in the day I had a 31 inch waist and with a sidearm, two reloads, two handcuffs, batton, maglight, buck knife, pager and keyfob, I had to carry my radio in my back pocket! Probably around twenty-ish pounds.

Then on my last day in LA I was eating at my favourite dinner, and the two fattest police officers I ever saw walked in and proceeded to order the entire menu, and lo and behold they had exactly the same junk on their belt but they had six inches in between each item. I was starting to get envious then I realized they weighed about three times me and I came to my senses. Now I would have room to add the radio. :)

Now I have

After getting dressed for work, I weigh 19 lbs. more than I did when I got out of the shower. Uniforn, Vest, nylon belt and keepers, .45 ACP 1911, 2 spare mags, radio, cuffs, OC spray, light, ASP, pager, cell phone, Keys, .........Over the years it's gotten a little bit heavier.

I would have guess 20 lbs but

I just weighted the belt + Glock 19+2 mags+OC+latex gloves and case+Gerber multitool+cuffs+Surefire Z2+Moto HT600+Streamlight UltraStinger=12lbs
PR-24 stays in the car.
