How much is a Hong Kong S&W M10 worth?

I have an opportunity to buy a S&W M10 that was a Hong Kong police issue gun (or, made for them, anyway). It is like new, in a blue plastic S&W box, has a 4" skinny barrel, wood grips and a lanyard ring on the base of the grip.

What would this be worth? I wonder if it's actually been in Hong Kong or if it's just overstock from S&W.

Thanks,
Steve

I would go $220 out the door. No more. I can get mechanically perfect but cosmetically 80% or so guns from the auction sites for $120 each all day long. I saw a true NIB M10 4" at a gunshow a while back, all papers etc, for $295 and thought it $20 too high.....

I bought a RHKP marked Model 10 for $100. It had been refinished and had no lanyard ring. It is a great shooter. The action is incredible. When I am on a revolver kick, this is one of my faviorites.

One of these guns is on the cover of David W. Arnold's new book, "Classic Handguns of the 20th Century", which you can see pictured on Amazon.com, although I don't know the link. Someone posted their photo in the past week or so on a forum, maybe not this one.

They seem common enough that they carry no extra value beyond that of any other M10 in like condition. But, hey: you get a free lanyard ring!
(Which will prevent your being able to use most replacement grips, so just add a Tyler grip adapter.)

By the way, the guy who wrote the above book is a former Rhodesian cop, who once used such M10's- and the Walther P-38 -on duty.

I've been told (by a RHKP officer) that the RHKP <serialnumber> on the backstrap was engraved in Hong Kong. Thus, if it has the number it made the trip from here to Hong Kong and back again.

Also, why are they here? The RHKP decided to swap all the Model 10s for Model 10s with the heavy barrel. S&W took 'em back in trade for the new ones. All that just to get the heavy barrel? Go figger.

Also, at the time of the change they went from a flap holster worn on the left hip, butt forward, to a 'normal', strong-side holster style.

Now that the Hong Kong police are part of China, I wonder what sidearm they carry - Chinese Makarovs maybe? Dunno....

A bit more on the RHKP Model 10s:

Mine, serial number BEBnnnn, was made in October of 1989. Over 13,000 were shipped to the RHKP and "were taken back as trade-ins for the Model 10-4" HB".

I got this info from S&W.

Also, when the RHKP switched to the HB version, they were issued a speed loader with 6 additonal rounds - the first time they were allowed to carry more than 6.

Thanks for all the replys. These scalpers want close to $500 for it!!!

I didn't know anything about them, so I wanted to check on the value and am glad I did.

Thanks,
Steve

Almost $500 for a used revolver? It better be fully engraved or have documents proving that Jackie Chan carried it in one of his various depictions of a Hong Kong policeman.
