How much is body armor and how long does it last?

I live in CA, so I have to ask this question on anything firearm related.

Is it allowed here?

As long as you keep it clean it lasts a long time. I had a kevlar vest that was all most 15 years old. I bought it for change because the outer covering had battery acid spilled on it. It worked the kevlar still stoped bullets like it should have.

How much? It depends on what type you get, and who made it.

Basement price is $250 for police trade-ins.

Service life depends on quality, how much its used, and how well its taken care of. The manufacturer will tell you about the life of their armor.

I've had a vest for 13 years now. Get it inspected once every 5 years and you should be able to get 15-20 years life out of it. Also depends on amount of use, etc. I was not in need to use very often so I'm still on my 1st vest.

Actually, $250 will by you a decent NEW level IIA or II vest. How long does it last? At least 5 years. Although I've heard first hand accounts of very old vests being shot and not failing. If it is stuck in your dark closet (as opposed to on a sweaty officer or perhaps in a hot squad car), I assume it will last nearly forever.

possession is not illegal in CA if your not a felon, however there is a 5 yr ( i think) enhancement if you commit a felony while wearing it..
