How much powder and primers are too much for 1 man

how much is too much. i stick to within the legal limits. im not going out and purchasing $500 in powder to ever risk being prosecuted. Not worth losing my rights as a gun owner. not even worth mentioning. The correct answer and only answer worth giving is i stay within the legal limits. Notice how i never post pictures of how much ammo or how much powder i have. It does not need to be shown. but its within the legal limits.

What i cant understand why. Is when some people will openly post pictures of there benches with about 40lbs of powder on them.

Right now I'm sitting on 8 lbs of Unique and 10,000 primers, that's plenty for loading my pistol rounds, 40 S&W and 357 mag. I've also got a pound of Blue Dot, a pound of Longshot, and a pound of 296.:)

Several pounds of powder and a few primers. Stored carefully, and marked so firemen can see it. :)

places ie Cabelas that sell portable powder magazines
I don't think you really need a type 4 magazine for smokeless powder (that looks like a blackpowder storage box) It would certainly work, but it's major overkill.

hmmmmm

I keep about 3k primers and about 10lbs of powder on hand...

I keep another 20k primers and a lot of powder in small individual containers. I top each one with a lead seal. Seems to work.

Yeah, we wouldn't want to break any laws.

... My concern would be violating laws and then having problem that your home owners insurance would deny?

Here's my solution...Public Storage.

"Hello Mr. Reloader. Have you been a naughty boy?"

Scrat,

That is why I never post pics of my stash of powder, primers, or even bullets and finished ammo for that matter.

*Please Note the following: I am well within the legal limits of primers, powder and finished ammunition.

Cheers...

Goody! Something else to worry about. Let's see: handloads for self-defense, locked/unlocked storage, lead poisoning, access by children and burglars, accidents, asteroid impacts, global warming, whale populations. Now powder and primers. I keep about 20lb of powder and 15-20K primers around. As I have no local supplier and have to pay hazmat charges, I never place small orders. I don't worry about it, or any of the aforementioned crises, either.

After walking into some stores, Sportsman Warehouse for example, and seeing their empty shelves, void of primers and powders, as well as various bullets, I have decided that about 15,000 LP primers, 3,000 small pistol primers, and 3,000 Large rifle primers are what I need to keep on hand.

I have several rifle/pistol combo's that enable me to shoot the same ammo for plinking and hunting, so I keep just enough LR primers for my 270 and 35 Rem.

I find down here in the South Texas brush country that a 44mag or 44wcf

rifle is just as good as a 270 or a 30-06.

:D

I always have a three year supply of powder and primers for the firearms I commonly use. I currently reload with two pistol and two rifle powders; working toward using one powder for each.

Primers are the critical component, in case of shortages or emergencies. They would be difficult to DIY, compared to powder.

My materials are labeled with date of purchase, and the oldest stuff gets used first; both powder and primers will endure decades of storage, if stored properly.

Be sure and ask your local authorties and abide by that, usually the NFPA codes as previously mentioned. Any overstock could render your homeowners insurance null and void. Store safely, regardless. A closet made of a couple of layers of sheetrock will be way safer (more fire proof or fire resistant) than a room with wood paneling. FM (Fire Marshal) 12

I was told to use a fireproof box/safe and store a couple of 5 gal jugs of water on top. The reasoning is the jugs will melt and spill the water, drowning the fire in that area hopefully long enough for the fire dept to get there and finish it off. May work or not, can't hurt.

I have about 18 lbs of powder and 15k primers and I still wish I had a little bit more, but room and funds are kind of limiting me. I will try to build up some more primers. Would like to get up to around 30 to 40k.
