Cabelas is selling them for $1000. I just bought one in July new on GB for $700. Bought a p229 in 2004 that had about 5000 rounds through it for $500 and only have replace the recoil spring in it and we still drive tacks together. You did we'll.
Good buy! That's the going rate for a used 228 around here. Local shop had a very worn police trade-in with dead sights marked for $400 that sold in two days and I've seen a couple on local forums recently go for $450-500.
The P228 is one of the finest combat 9MM pistols ever made. I would have snapped that up without question at that price to have another one. Mine is a Zurich Police trade in in A+ condition.
The one you have is German made and I would say probably a very low round count - maybe less than 1000 rounds assuming original finish which it appears to be by the pictures at first glance.
If you are not familiar with SIGs just be sure to keep the frame rails and barrel exterior well lubed - I use Slide Glide medium grease myself, and change the recoil spring every 5000 rounds.
NIB pre year 2000 German made/proofed P228s with original case, paperwork, and test target can bring well over $1000 on Gun Broker auctions.
You can use the Mecgar 15 round flush fit magazines in the P228 and they work great.
But, by comparison, I picked up a excellent condition P228 with Trijicon night sights and two mags for $550 a few months ago.
Also picked up a "very good" condition Swiss P228 with one mag for $500 about three years ago. Cosmetically, I would have called it "good" at best, though.
