How often do you replace your magazine springs? I currently have some
hi capacity magazines that are more than ten years old and still feed well with the original springs.
I have a lot of 8rd CMC Shooting Star and Powermags and I change their springs about every 1000 rds. I have the mags numbered and keep a logbook so I know the round count of each. Cheap insurance.
The only time I ever replaced a magazine spring is in a bunch of M1 Carbine mags that were in a fire.
I have no doubt that springs do need to be replaced sometimes, especially when loaded and unloaded/fired a lot but I've never had to replace one.
I have a 1911 magazine that was given to me, in the mid 60's that was loaded with 1916-18 45's.
The man said as long as he can remember the mag had been loaded. He said his Grandfather (I believe) brought the 45 and the mag back from "the Big War".
He said he didn't know what happened to the pistol.
I lost track of the mag and it's in with all my other 45 magazines, which all function fine.
BUT I will replace my 45 carry mag springs if I even think they need it.
